My husband, myself and toddler, and my nieces and nephews (ranging from 2 years old to 16 years old) would like to plan a day out.

Which would you recommend? Please give detailed reasons for your choice.

Or please feel free to recommend another destination (but bear in mind I am pregnant, so i cant just go to an adventure park like Thorpe Park, thats why i thought of zoos)

LONGLEAT without a doubt. Excellent value for money, and loads to do. It takes about an hour to drive around the safari adventure, looking at lions etc. Then you park up, and walk around the little animals. There is safari boats to take you for a ride to see and feed the sealions, which is amazing cos they follow the boat and jump up for the fish. Then you see the gorillas on an island as you go past. There is also a train ride to go around the safari park. There is a maze, and also adventure play areas for the kids. We spent a whole day there, and loved it. My kids are 10, 8, and 1, and and they were all really happy. We only paid about £60 for a family passport ticket as well which we though was really good compared to some other places. You can also go around longleat house and grounds included in the price, but we didn't do that cos the kids weren't really interested in that.
Being pregnant shouldn't be a problem for you because there's not loads of walking to be done. And if you have a pushchair for your youngest there is buggy parks at the train and boat entrances so you can leave it safely while you go on them. I have never really enjoyed any days out like this one, and i really would reccommend it, the kids will love it. Have fun. Oh, and also, if you collect tesco clubcard vouchers, you can transfer them online for days out vouchers, and longleat is now on the list. So for a £10 in clubcard vouchers you will get about £40 of longleat vouchers. Go to tesco.com and click on clubcard, and then clubcard deals for more info on that.

I really like both places.

Chessington is not really classed as a zoo anymore, it has a some animals but is mostly rides like Thorpe Park is. Although majority of the rides are smaller then the Thorpe Park ones, as you are pregnant I think that longleat would be the best idea for you. There are several different attractions at longleat, the safari park is the main one. There is also a boat that goes to the gorillas, a petting zoo, a butterfly house and a maze to name a few.

Depending on where you live, another good place with animals is Port Lynne, it's in Kent and has a safari as well as parts you can walk round. It has the biggest Gorilla family in the UK. Longleat has more variety though so if you are nearer that then go for that one.

Longleat is an amazing day out, and it's great value for money. I don't know if this is still correct, but when we visted last season, if you didn't get round everything in one day (and there is A LOT to see/do), you could come back for free to do whatever you missed.

The monkeys are incredible (strongly advise against going through the enclosure in your own car, though - the monkeys were doing a lot of damage to the cars as they went through...better to take the safari bus if you can), the lions and wolves are great, as is the boat trip where you will see the gorillas and hippos.

It's in a beautiful setting, and I would say it's one of those places that could keep everyone from 8-80 occupied. Food prices are reasonable as well, compared to what you would pay at some Theme/Amusement parks.

Having said all of that, I've never been to Chessington to compare the two, but we will definitly be visiting Longleat again, probably more than once, in the future.

Hope that helps!

i would go to chessington world of adventures as its now called, you have a zoo,but also rides to break up the day,its a great place,I'm an annual pass holder to chessington world of adventures and have a 4 year old,she loves going there ,Ive visited longleat on many occasions, but its just animals and once you have seen them all once its boring, pets corner is interesting and you get to hold some of the animals, there is a parrot show ,where the parrots ride bikes and do tricks,
there is also the boat which takes you out in the lake and you see the sea lines and you can feed them, with fish, you pass the hippos and the gorillas that live on the island, the gorillas have sky TV we where told when we went on the boat trip.
i think, once you have been on the boat and seen the animals there is nothi ng left to do unless you go round again.
'i found my daughter got bored, and we also found chessington world of adventures broke up the day with something to do for everyone,
if you do go to longleat don't go through the monkey enclosure they pinch the washers off your car.

I have taken my nephew who is 8 to both Longleat and Chessington and he loved Longleat better as there is more of a variety of things to see and do, and yes your right your passport is valid until its finished, so if you dont get to see everything 1st time round you can go back again and finish it of at no extra cost.

Have fun whatever you decide!

chessington zoo?
thats an old name... it has been 'rebranded' as chessington world of adventures (for several years now)
anyway, CWoA is a good mix and has some fun rides suitable for small children like professor burps bubble works - and they still have areas set aside for the 'zoo'.... there are the more adventurous rides for the 16 yr old's too
