It will get damaged as a 110 volt supply (US type) has a frequency of 60 Hz, European 220 volt has a frequency of 50Hz - therefore there is a good chance that the clock will get damaged internally; as it may draw too much current due to the voltage difference and draw this current at the wrong frequency aswell......

I'm even more amazed that this guy has conjured up a 240 Volt alarm clock as a TRAVEL alarm clock for his "problem".

Agreed that every true "travel" appliance comes with power supply switches for 110/220V or 50Hz/60Hz, and smart circuitry to recognize when the power source doesn't match your switch settings, but this sounds like a silly juvenile question.

I can't even find an alarm clock listed on the internet with a 240 volt-only power supply except those designed exclusively for use in the UK (Ahem, that's not much "travel"). Even the one listed with a "Bed Shaker Jack" (no fooling) has switchable 110V/220V power supply.

What is a straightner? Only rare devices designed for 110 volts are ok at 240 volts, but I'm surprised that the outlets blew, but I would expect the circuit breaker to trip. Neil

don't do it, it probably won't work because the volt supply is different, you shouldnt try it but it should b safe since the chips volt supply is less than ur alarm clock. If it was the ther way around you would break your clock

Nothing. It won't work. If you had plugged a 110V appliance into a 230 or 240 V supply, it will get burnt.

A travel alarm works on batteries.

It probably won;t work and probably won't burn it up either. The other way around would. I am surprised that the cruise ship doesn't have 220.

It wont work and will blow the circuit. They sell adaptors for that when traveling internationally.
