That is not what the "The Godfather (1972)" is really about.

The film is about FAMILY! The Corleone Family and the family business.

The violence in the film really starts when a rival of the Corleone's wants to strart selling drugs and needs the Don's influence to do so. Don Vito Corleone (played superbly by Marlon Brando) wants nothing to do with the drug business.

Only after when Vito Corleone is almost killed by the rival families does his son Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) start a violent mob war.

Anyway...what is so good about it... Great performances!
1. Marlon Brando (always great)
2. Al Pacino
3. James Caan
4. Robert Duvall
5. Sterling Hayden (one of my favorites) see "The Killing"
6. Diane Keaton
7. Richard Conte
8/ John Cazale...etc.

And of course a great director
Francis Ford Coppola
and great story/script.

This is a great film! One of the best.

No doubt one of the greatest movies of all time. All of the actors fit their rolls perfectly. Check out Apocalypse Now, which is another masterpiece from Francis Ford Coppolla.
