My son was 7 lbs 13 oz and 22 inches long. I had trouble breastfeeding at first, so he got down to about 7lbs. Because he was so long, he was really skinny. I used newborn diapers for about 3-4 weeks, and used probably 10 diapers a day. Since you don't know how big your baby will be, I would recommend buying only 1-2 packs. If you need more you can always get them later (or have someone else get them).

My first was 21 inches, 9 lbs
My second 19 inches, 6 lbs (born at eight months, due to preclampsia)
My first baby was big but he still fit the newborns. It wasn't long till he was bustin through them.
My second was a special case, a preemie, born right at the eighth month, but we used the new born diapers for a month or so. I can't quite remember. Still he grew out of those fast. It was worth it though since we got more diapers for that small time.
I would buy the stage one diapers, if you know your baby will be born at the proper time. You just bend the top over a bit for the belly button to heal. No problems, they don't seem to notice. Also, maybe buy two or three packs of stage one since those little guys seem to go alot.

My baby was 41 weeks....weight was 9lbs 11oz....23 inches long. He did not fit into newborn diapers or clothes considering they only hold 8 pounds on average. Ended up wasting a lot of clothes (had already washed and preped them) and taking back a lot of diapers. We started with the number 1 pampers swaddlers...they will also fit on a newborn but are big enough to last a while. My son is now 12 weeks and we are fixing to up his size to size 3 crusisers, number 2 are getting a little tooo small. Hope this helps. If you have already bought a lot of newborn sized stuff I highly recommend that you save the reciepts and dont wash anything yet! lol.

It really all depends on how much the baby eats. With my son (9 lbs 1 oz) he stayed in newborn diapers for about a week. With my daughter (6 lbs 4 oz) she was in them for about two months. She was diagnosed at 17 days with "failure to thrive" which is translated into "We have no idea why she's not gaining weight." So it really depends on how much your baby eats. Start off by buying a jumbo pack of newborn diapers a week and see how it goes from there.

My son was 10 lb 5 oz when he was born. He skipped newborn diapers and went right into size 1 in the hospital.

1st- 7lbs. 2oz. born at 40 wks.
2nd-6lbs. 8oz born early at 36 1/2wks.
i didn't use NB diapers w/my first cause he gained 3 lbs in the first week, and only spent 2 weeks in size 1 before he gained another 4 lbs. *we called him Chunk* LOL
my second...she was (and still is) tiny. i used NB diapers till she was 3 1/2 months.
right now *for #3* i probably have about 7-8 packages of the NB diapers, i am going to start buying the size 1 now. i always buy about 2 packages a month and store them in the baby's closet...by the end of the pregnancy i have a closet full of size NB, size 1 and size 2 diapers..it's very convenient to do it that way and SO much easier than stressing about 'what if we run out'...a good supply really helps in the beginning.
i would say typically if you have a baby around 7-8 lbs. you might use 4-6 packages, or less if your baby gains weight fast.
i wouldn't really worry too much though cause you can always donate what you don't use, or give them to a friend or family member that is having a baby.

My daughter was two weeks early, she weighed 7 lbs 9 oz, and was 19.5 long. we used the newborn diapers for about a month I would say, my niece was 8 lbs 13 oz ans 22 long and they used newborn diapers for about 2 weeks. Just save all of your reciepts for diapers so you can return any you do not use. Good luck!

My son was 7lbs 6 oz.
I used newborn diapers in the hospital and even took some home and used them for a couple of days as well. As soon as I had to, buy somee I went to #1's. My advise is to buy more #2's though. You will have to be folding them anyway for the first few weeks (because of the cord). I bought 9 packs of #2s (huge sale!!) and used them all.

2nd baby - 8 lb 5 oz. and 21" long
I went through about 4 packs of newborn diapers, including her time in the hospital. I only bought 1 pack at a time so I wouldn't have any excess. Once you see the crack of their bum peeking through it is definitely time to go up a size! (earlier is better of course)
1st baby 2 lb 7 oz - she started with micro preemie diapers. I had no idea they came that small! So tiny, they seemed fit for a barbie!
