Ok so let's just say im a 17 year old Latin American and people from my school saw me at my house having a family party and my WHOLE family was there and they past by saying ''ILLEGAL!'' and blah blah blah. I know I probably shouldn't care but it just bothers me. I mean wouldn't you be filled with anger and frustration knowing that people you thought you were ''cool with'' would have the nerve to say that your family is illegal in the country? I mean they're not, they're citizens and were staying at my house for a while. But if you were me and are about to go to school, what would you do if you saw them and they said that again? PLEASE help I need answers.

Ahh, High school, what fond memories. Actually it was hell for me and I don't know many people who leave it unscathed. Be proud of who you are, hold your head up high, and realize they have already moved onto some other undeserving victim.I suppose if you can just forget about it, do. If not, confront them and let them know what neanderthals they were and it was not cool w/ you, and find more deserving friends. Easier said than done, I just wanted to breeze through school as unscarred as possible. But everyone has to choose their battles. Good luck and stay proud of who you are and what you will accomplish.Just one more year w/ the buffoons, your family is forever.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. You just have to try to tough it out because people are pretty touchy lately. It's like how we treated all brown skinned people after 9/11. What do you think America needs to do about illegal immigration? It's a hard question because many Hispanic people have settled in so well. I have always appreciated how hard Hispanics work for what little money they make and also, how family oriented they are. I wish a little would rub off on the rest of us. I would ask your friends straight out if that's what they meant. Good luck.

Ignore as much as you can.Don't even act as if they are speaking. If it gets to be too much(they won't stop teasing)that's when you let the little brats know that you don't owe them anything and to back the hell up off of you.You don't owe any explanations.Find a cool group-one that you are comfortable to be YOU in. Don't forget about the school officials. But home is where the heart and FAMILY is.You should not have to go to school worrying about little inbreds like this.Know how to protect yourself.

I understand your frustation. And if it is someone you later run across,I think your best option is to let them know first they are incorrect and second that your feelings were hurt by their comment.Im white but I have a very good friend that is from iraq and he deals with rude and hateful comments on a daily basis

I shouldn't bother too much with over weighed, short sighed and generally frustrated American Nazis...They just don't deserve your attention...You should chose friends from among those who have their dignity and respect your dignity as well...

I would rethink about keeping the friends that I thought were my friends. That was rude, hurtful, and uncalled for.(Ask them how they would feel if you accused their mother of also being their cousin. Same principal.)
I'm sorry you had to go through that, Querida. That just wasn't nice.
