In terms of housing (in the UK) they are classed as vulnerable and in priority need. The local authority has a duty in Law under the Housing Act to find them accommodation. The reality of this however is usually a place in a hostel somewhere which is not exactly great at 16. The no home no job benefit trap awaits.

They suffer, finding out who their true friends are, try to resist temptation, find solace in any adult they can to use as a parental figure to talk to, scream with frustration at the fact that no-one will employ a 16 year old with standards, and the benifits office can't help due to not being 'of working age' (ie 18).

I got kicked out of home at 16 with just the clothes on my back and tears in my eyes. It was a hellish period, but I've survived, and I'm happy. In retrospect, I'm glad that it happened. I wouldn't be the person I am today if i hadn't gone through all of that.

That depends on YOU!
Do you have a job and income that will financially support you moving out of home and into a bedsit or room?
YOU are responsible for your life and actions..remember any mistakes can have lasting effects. Drug and alcohol abuse or falling in with the wrong crowd!
Are you unhappy at home? Grass look greener? I am not getting at you mate as my son felt as you sound like you do now.
he did not leave home but wanted to..until he realised how much food, energy and housing costs. he's still at home now.
If you are being abused then go to a trusted person and report it.
Remember parents may not always be easy to live with when you are 16 but they do love you and want the best for you.
And trust me..I wont have a party when my sons move out..I'll miss them.

My brother was kicked out at 16 year old... he moved in with his friends parents around the corner, got his GED and started working fulltime. Its not an easy road to take, but its a hell of a lot better if you have grown ups supporting you. He's doing well for himself now, he's followed his heart and explored all of his interests thus far.... he turns 21 on Friday! Im proud of him, but its not to say he didnt make mistakes and learn about life the hard way....

some kids go before that age because the home life is too bad to take so if you are still at home at 18 and its a happy home with good parents your in heaven and you just don't know how lucky you are

Well it depends on the kid. Some do fine if not better than they would if they'd staid in the home. For some they get lost for a while and go back home. For others they are lost and never return.

It generally leads to the kid not finishing high school, not going to college and leading a life unfulfilled because they chose to leave home instead of staying and finishing their education like they should.
Boys and girls both tend to get in trouble with drugs, alcohol and the police when they are not being shown the way by thier parents.

I left home at 16 and have a very happy, productive life and great career, it depends on the kid. Obviously it is better to have the love and support of your family by staying at home but this is not always possible, for many children the home is a place of misery and they are better on their own.

They get their own place, and they have to get a job, and possibly leave school. And because they have little or no qualifications to get a good job, it's a low-paying job they get, such as MacDonalds.

Why do kids leave home at 16? I don't see the point.

Of course, for some kids, it turns out great!
