I have a paper to write on Sweden. I have tons of info on the country, so writing the body of the paper won't be an issue. But I can' get it started.....what do I write as a first sentence??

Also, I have to present some info about Sweden to my classmates. Uggh. I hate presentations. In my presentation I have to tell everyone why I chose Sweden. Well, I chose it because I *had* to, it was the only country left for me to pick. Lol. BUt I know I can't say that. I am going to lie....

I want to say......."My family is going there this summer without me (which is TRUE, actually). So researching Sweden and writing this paper was a way for me to live viacariously.

Does that sound dumb??? I want people to laugh.

first write a paragraph about the country and why it is interesting
and then try to talk more about the geography, the people, culture and language.
try to make it all coherent... which means that you should link all the ideas together. try to make paragraphs rather than a single long speach. meanwhile keep them saperated in term of spaces.
as for making people laugh, you can add sentences that are used in everyday language

What kind of information to do you on Sweden? Is this a paper on how the culture is, or how the country has evolved over the centuries? If its about the culture, you could start off by saying a broad statement something like this... Every country is like a fingerprint-- unique. Then state a general statement about sweden's culture. If it is about the history of sweden, you could start off with a broad statement such as....Over the passing of the centuries, Sweden has gone through so many unique changes (or put whatever Sweden has done throughout the years...or how it has changed through the years). If I knew more about the topic and what your teacher expects I could help you a little more. Hope this helps for now. Let me know if you need something else.

You could do some research and find out what the words in Swedish would be for "Welcome to Sweden", then write that down in Swedish as your first line then proceed from there. It's not about making people laugh if you want to do that you could become a comedian. You want a smart, crisp paper full of pertinent facts that will impress and show that you have done your homework...Good luck..

The Dale Carnegie approach is a good one. Start with a 30 second story about something that happened to you in Sweden. Maybe something like, "One Saturday morning I was walking in downtown Stockholm when ..." Ideally the story can be funny or make a point (e.g., friendly people, or very cold winter, or ...)

Don't give a preamble. Just start with the, "One Saturday...".

Why would you lie, when you have a perfect introduction? For example: " I was assigned to research Sweden. I find this accident an especially fortunate one, since my family is planning to travel there this summer. My research has given me the opportunity to enrich my family's vacation."

I would start out with a mild joke--maybe something about ABBA? I think your start is good too, but I'd make sure that you talk about Sweden in a historical, cultural, and geographic sense.

That's good. Just go a head. You are saying the truth. And do remember, to say what you like with a smile :)
