The OB doesn't really DO anything other than provide a slick surface for the planchette to move across. Sure, you could make one up yourself.

The "work" is being done by the users -and it takes 2 or more so that combined forces on the planchette appear to create "independent" movement. Since each individual senses that they "follow" rather than "push," the illusion is pretty good.

In actual tests, however, the human factor was pretty well established by blind-folding the users. The OB spelled out nonsense words, and when the board was reversed, "Yes" and "No" questions resulted in movements to blank areas at the bottom of the board -where operators THOUGHT the yes and no answers were located.

That said, the OB is a very good demonstration of how very subtle suggestion and the tiniest movements result in some awesome outcomes. The lesson to take from this is that most people are incredibly more "sensitive" to non-verbal cues from others than they realize. Thus, eye movements, slight twitches, a little shudder, the way someone swallows -all that stuff sends out a sort of "subtitle" that validates or challenges the spoken message and deliberate, gross movements.

And this is why women -who generally are regarded as more "sensitive" creatures than the ape-like males with whom they consort- have "intuition." They're not reading anyone's mind, have no "sixth sense." They've just learned to pay attention to the "little things," literally.

And this is why good psychics, mentalists and faith healers are successful (that is -WHEN they are): they pick up on cues the rest of us ignore or don't detect. The really good "sensitives" work for the CIA and other investigative agencies where they chat with prisoners and suspects. A good reason NOT to use torture, which has an annoying way of distracting someone from their actual thoughts.

As a fun test of the OB, get 2 friends and run this experiment: separately interview each friend, asking them questions that get very different answers. For example, put some blue placemats on the table, ask one friend what color they are. Then change the placemats to, say, red, and bring in the other friend and ask what color they are. Now sit them both down and ask them what to consult the OB for the color of the placemats each saw (neither knows what the other saw). See what color shows up. Or try asking each person (separately) what they believe the outcome of the Iraq conflict will be -the result of an upcoming election, the price of gas in 3 months. You get the idea.

Remember, it is just a toy.

Some friends of mine were using a Ouija board with a glass and the glass spelled out the words "The Goat"...they got a bit freaked out and threw the glass over their balcony (they were in a high rise apartment). Later they went out for a drink and found that the glass had landed, right way up and without shattering, on the ground outside the building.

By the way, Ouija means Yes-Yes (French and German words for "Yes") and is named because it gives you whatever answer you want (or does it..............?)

I don't believe in them b/c I saw proof that it didn't work. A friend of mine used mine the ghost was surpposed to be Queen Victoria the so called ghost said she would die a vigin but would also experience sex. It made so since b/c she would have to lose her virginity to have sex so No I don't believe in ouija boards and think all that crap is just in someone's head.

My mother and brother had one and got silly answers on it. It told them my girlfriend was Nancy Wilson. I have never known anyone with that name. My lover was Kazuko Otaki from Japan, but Mom & Bro knew little about Japan. When I tried the Ouija with one of them, there were no coherent answers. It is obviously nonsense. They made the thing stop at certain letters consciously or subconsciously, but it won't work with someone who knows it is "ngao si".

well coming from a person who used to play quija. first thing you should always remember its not a game. but i will give you advice. first off never make one cause chances are its not going to work. second, best way to play is with someone else 2 or how many you want. cause if you play by yourslef you will be more likely to get posessed or worse. do a reverse figure eight. and then have ether you or one of your friends close their eyes and feel free to ask any question. oh one more thing be careful.

Watch the first 10 minutes of "The Exorcist" and then decide if that is something you want to fool with. I played with one at about age 14, and very strange things started happening in my house. Don't do it.

When I was a teen we messed around with Ouja boards. I know they don't work. Someone was always pushing the "eye" to scare the others.
