Yes. Ford makes many different parts for Mazda and Mazda makes parts for Ford. There are three owner of Mazda Corporation. 1) Mazda 2) Ford Motor Company 3) Sumitomo Bank of Japan. Ford Motor Company has the controlling interest of Mazda. Ford Motor Corporation owns 33.4% of Mazda. If you think that when you purchase a General Motors or a Chrysler automobile that you are getting a 100% american automobile...Well I have bad news for you... Ford ,GM and Chrysler all own foriegn automobile companies. They share powertrain and other parts as well as technology with each of the companies that they own. I hope this helped you understand your issue with Ford Motor Company.

ZERO. Ford bought up to 33.5% of Mazda. They do not control Mazda. They cannot decide to use their own parts in Mazda's. Now Ford owns about 20% of the Mazda. It is the other way around. Ford uses Mazda technology in their cars. The new 2007-2009 Ford Fusion is a COPY of the 2003-2008 Mazda 6. The new 2009 Fod Focus is a COPY of the 2004-2009 Mazda 3. The Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute were designed by both Ford and Mazda working together. The only Mazda that has Ford made parts is the Mazda B series Pick up truck. Ford copied the Mazda MX-6 and made the Ford Probe. Ford took the chassis and suspension from the 1999-2003 Mazda Protege and used it in the 2003-2008 Ford Focus. But they still used their own engine in the Ford Focus. The Mazda 3 is 100% Japanese.

Ford owns 33 1/3% controlling interest in Mazda. They make all the decisions for Mazda. However, it is rumored that Mazda may try to buy back it's stock.

The Ford parts in Mazda cars (with the exception of the tribute and the pickups) are Volvo grade. You won't find them in mustangs or tauruses if that is what you are thinking. The U.S. market ford focus is completely different than the European market focus. The European focus is a watered down Volvo S40 semi - clone and shares parts with the Mazda3 (mainly suspension, wiring and floorpan layout). Nowadays, most manufacturers out source parts like transmissions, steering components, wiring harnesses, even engines. Few parts are made 'in house'. This is the new way cars are being built and it is not going to stop. There is nothing wrong with the Mazda's with Ford parts in them. Most of the cars are still built / assembled in Japan and they have the same quirks and issues as any other car.

What's with the anti Ford sentiment? Almost all newer Fords have some Mazda componentry in them. Ford manual transmissions are made by Mazda. Many of their cars are built on Mazda platforms. Ford has had interest in Mazda since the '70s. They are actually more reliable than the other domestic cars right now but Toyota and Honda has them beat too. It used to be until around 1990 that GM was a slightly better choice but GM decided to let their cars go to waste as they put their focus on their money making trucks. Lincolns have always been more reliable than Cadillacs (Cadillacs do look better though).

Ford owns 33% of Mazda of Hiroshima, Japan. That's why Mark Fields was installed as CEO from 2000 to 2002. He is currently Executive Vice President of Ford Motor Company and President of the Americas region for Ford.

Ford and Mazda also jointly own several factories worldwide, including one in Flat Rock, Michigan (AutoAlliance International) that assembles the Mazda 6 and the Ford Mustang. Jointly-owned AutoAlliance Thailand assembles Ford and Mazda trucks in Thailand.

Ford's Twin Cities Assembly Plant in Minnesota assembles the Ford Ranger and Ford Ranger-derived Mazda B-Series pickup trucks. Ford Motor Company Philippines assembles Ford and Mazda products for Southeast Asia.

Ford and Mazda develop engines together.

The answer is somewhere between "Zoom Zoom" and "C7S." If you believe either one of those answers you will know the truth. What I would like to suggest is that Ford is getting a bad rap from your question. Jaguar previously Ford owned, recently sold to India's Tata is now one of JD Powers top brands overall. Ford cannot take credit, since Tata owns Jaguar. Ford, too is nowadays a rare family owned American company. This company is a national treasure, based on what they are doing for families and community. I think Ford deserves a new look. If you have the time to be better educated on this issue I direct you to search for "The Ford Story." Ford principles tell a recent story of what they are doing now. I find it to be impressive. I want Ford to make it. It is for this reason, I am standing up for Ford, not to be interpreted as contrary to the question, but rather contrary to the perception of the brand. The Mazda 3 is a good decision. Associated to every brand is ownership experience. Mazda has some steep hills to climb on this one issue, relative to honoring warranty work throughout the car line. I can say this to you from my own experience. My 05 Mazda is a really good car. I have no complaints. The 09/10 Mazda 3 is a product of incremental evolutionary changes that have led to vast overall improvements to the finer details. Instead of a click, dials now snick, gone are the days of the car door being tinny, the car doors now thump. Their is a crisper element and a tighter quieter sound within the cabin. It is a more upscale experience that betrays its economy car roots, teetering towards luxury with a dash of sportiness. As I have stated earlier, the Mazda 3 is a good decision. Cheers.
