When world war 1 was ending a soldier who had been away from his family for 3 years phoned home and told his man and dad how much he missed them. They also said how much they missed him. While he was on the phone he said that he had a friend who he wanted to bring home to stay with him and his family for a while. He said that his friend had no where to go and he would like him to stop with their family. His parents were ok with that and they said it would be fine. The soldier also told his parents that his friend had been injured in the war and had both of his legs and an arm blown off by a mine. His parents didnt like the idea of this and told him that it would be a big responsibility and maybe he shouldnt bring his friend home. His parents said that it would be a burden on the family to have somebody like that staying with them. The soldier then slammed down the phone and ended the conversation.
His family were expecting him home any time soon but he never turned up. 2b continued

Well, it is one thing to care for someone else that is not a part of your family. The boy should have been honest and told them that he had injuries that may burden the family. The family has to get used to the idea that the child is coming home. They are looking forward to a good reunion, and then the son tells them he is bringing home a friend that is injured and will not be able to care for himself. It is beyond the human mind to conceive such horror, and they already had enough on thier plate thinking about thier on son being damaged mind wise by this. If he would have told them it was him, they probably would have excepted him with open arms, but it would have been very hard for them.

So where as I feel very sorry for the family having lost the boy, and the boy not being able to be honest. Honesty would have helped here.

Not true. When a soldier gets injured at war, they notify the next of kin. Someone in the family would have known his condition.

this is a sad story. i'll bet the parents regret saying that, but there is a big difference between caring for a family member and a stranger. it is the son's fault for not telling them.

i think this is a sad story........the soldier should have told real story to his parents. How can his parents have same feelings for their son's friend....they just have sympathy for him......but for their own son......blood is thicker than water, they could definitely helped him.
soldier was not bold enough to face this cruel world.
