To Jacob W:
To every man upon this Earth, death cometh soon or late
and how can man die better than facing fearful odds
for the ashes of his fathers or the temples of his Gods?
So, well said, mein freund.
I used to always tell people I would rather die doing something rather than popping a blood vessel while on the crapper, heh.

No. Losing a limb like that takes more than just the limb it takes a part of you that affects your quality of life in ways that most people will never know or understand. I remember growing up in my condition watching episode five of star wars, where luke skywalker got his arm cut off, and the part where he got the prosthesis. I think that movie had a very dramatic affect on the course of my life since then. Had I never seen it I probably would've lost any hope that this could ever be fixed, even if I knew it was possible myself. Even if that person would never say it aloud, I think that he or she would want that part of themselves back, so they could make efforts to be the person they were or could have been. Theres a commercial for farmers insurance that depicts this very well using rabbits. It shows doctors attaching lucky rabbits feet and the rabbits doing rabbit things after they had the procedure. I dont really know what Im trying to say with all of this. You cant really tell someone else how important something is if you didnt lose it.

He/she may be missing half of their body but they will never be half a soldier.
You know, it really makes me think. People as always so frightened about serving in the Military in a time of conflict. They fear death so much. I and several of my cousins served and suffered no injury while two other cousins who never served, died young. One from a heroin overdose and the other while drunk driving.
One hears all the time about some college kid drinking themselves to death or dying in some hazing mishap. People die or are permantently disabled participating in sports or just crossing the street.
We will all die someday, many of us while we are still young. To me, serving in the military or as a rescue worker is a good way to die if it is your time to die. Far better than the wasted lives of so many young people in gangs, using drugs or particpating in other stupid activities. Or of the millions of young men and women in prison.

Not necessarily. I would have to know him personally to make that decision. I know many soldiers and many of them are more whole than the average person.

Thats very tragic.
It really depends on the man himself. Being injured in a war in and of itself doesnt make him a great person or any more of a human being.
