use organics where you can, avoid chemicals - mushroom compost, cow or chicken manure (aged) try to use as little chemical fertilization as you can - apart from trace elements for soil
Mulch well during the hot months spray plants with seasol and worm castings (diluted) in he cool of the day
roses need way more intense care than the other plants yoyu mentioned - pruning, spraying, etc.. find a website specific to your area with the roses - the others will do ok with little or no help.
hostas are prone to slugs and snails.......beer in a sunken cup will take care of it!

My well-liked cookie is that fancy sort you get at a bakery - that's have been given approximately 6 or so layers and is regularly purple and green with a skinny chocolate layer topping -- i think of that's referred to as a petite fours??

Try using a slow-release fertiliser around the base and spray with a foliar fertiliser during their growing season.
