It is well past time to replace the spark plug wires a complete set will also have a coil wire. To get the real good wires either buy BOSCH brand or visit the dealer. Other things you need to replace? Spark plugs? distributor cap and rotor? Don't forget the timing belt and tensioner every 90,000km or 60,000 miles if the timing belt breaks it will cost thousands. Not many amps but a lot of volts almost 100kv

Hi manalur,
How is the idling,is it smooth or there is misfirings. If there is misfirings,it could be the spark plugs too.Check the km the persent plugs have done.if is has done more then recommended km,get them changed. After that, if you have misfirings, get it to BMW center to diagonise system. Then u will know the exact things to be done.
It also depends on ones driving if the comsumption is high.
Happy motoring with a bimmer.

Use Ohm meter to measure resistance in wire/cable. Heres a great guide which gives you amount of ohm resistance per foot or per inch.
