Because when they start learning the truth, they will think the Church lied to them. Spiritual knowledge is not of itself evil. It's what one chooses to do with the knowledge, that determines good and evil!

Look at it like this: I am the top Cardinal in a church and some brings me some information that totally destroys what I have come to love and respect not to mention it is how I make my living. What in the hell do you think the religious elite will do with this information? How know they may even start an Inquisition or a Crusade to hide or destroy this information so the masses would not find out. In the mean time people are living in the dark ages and treated like mushrooms.
The masses are illiterate and have not access to this information so how would they ever know the truth. As time goes by and the killing becomes less acceptably not to mention science has gain respectability and start to dig into the past and truth start to trickle into society but it takes time to influence belief system that have been entrenched for hundreds of year. The most educated always are open to the facts but masses need time to let go of their old belief.
I would say the above is a good representation of what has really happened over time. There is so much evidence of extraterrestrial influence in man's history but it is the none institutional scholar that only accept the facts as they are reveal while the so called experts and religious leaders have the most to loose thus will fight to keep the status quo.
Change is always met with opposition. The biggest opposition comes from those with the most to loose.
The religious is thinking: oh what will I believe in now? Try believing in yourself.

People like to be controlled. Consider us a pack animal by nature.......there is only ever one leader, when it dies a new leader takes over.
If you make the pack leader a God it cannot die.
Religion gave early societys rules on which to function and moral teachings to develope through without which the new systems would not have grown.
These days Religion gives many people comfort and an outlet for their guilt.
We must however remember how the worlds religions grew and are growing today....generally through violence.
Religions are out worn institutions with no relevance in the modern world. We need to look at what God/spirit is and realise we all have one and see why we have and what its for.

The church & religion is just like any other large financial corporation or institution. When they stopped doing what they were meant to do.....preaching the word of God.
And became corrupted.... by thinking they had it on good authority from above that they were special from everyone else. That is where they messed up.
So, let's protect our own (priests) & the devout (contributors)& to heck with the rest. Well, it doesn't work that way in God's eyes. One day they will reap what they sow.

Actually the church today is not against education. At one time catholic church did try and keep people ignorant. There are scientist that are christians, Archeaologist that are Christians, There are philosphers that are Christians, There are doctors that are Christians. There mothers that are Christian. There are psychologist that are Christian. Alot go to secular schooling so who are you really calling ignorant. Please beware you are ignorant about Christianity and Christians. Not all Christians are uneducated about the world. I admit there are groups that say they are Christian and lack knowledge of anything but their Bible.
You would do well to gain knowledge by reading your Bible and studying many things along side the word of God.

The Church isn't so much protecting people as holding them back spiritually and covering their eyes to stop them seeing their Creator for themselves. They believe that people who think for themselves are a threat to them (which they are) and so continue to brand them as satanic. This is what happened in The Burning Times. Wise women died for their knowledge and healing skills. They were a threat to the superiority of the Male Deity that the new church wanted to be in place. The world is weary of religion.

They will Never. They keep people ignorant for their survival. It's the people who need to understand that Jesus and Church are different. Today there are many catholics (who follow the catholic church), but a few Christians (those who follow the real Jesus). Catholic church knows how to keep them catholics, and to prevent them from becoming Christians.
There is nothing called evil here. It's absence of the Goodness. We feel that there is evil. Live the ideology of Jesus, be a Christian, not a catholic, then you will see only goodness, Jesus everywhere.

The church was meant to be one and ONLY one. Many real Christians who have learned this simple truth try to impress it upon those who are still influenced by the world. Sadly, the "truth" has been corrupted by what is known today as the universal church. When this danger to their authority (not to mention populatrity and political stance) emerged, they try to keep the people ignorant to keep from listening to the truth.

When it comes to the Body of Christ,(The Bride) They will not be ignorant, they will see eye to eye on God's word, Isa. 52:8 In Revelation is says The Bride hath( Hath is a pass tense & over a process of time) Made herself ready, Therefore the true church is every True Born again Christian that see eye to eye. Now I said TRUE BORN AGAIN & NOT a I think I am. Now when it comes to a denominational church, every one of them has lied to their people.

Ignorance is bliss when, there is nothing to judge for one shall not be judged in Future.
May be Ignorance is good, when there is innocence and devotion for God.
May be ignorance not bad when there are not any temptations for fresher and further material comforts and pursuits with selfish interest.

Why would you assume ignorance. Only ignorance would assue such a thing.
When you have sought the truth and found it...that is not ignorance. But making assumptions about beliefs you do not understand is ignorance.
