I'll be spending 6 months working in the US from next month.

I was doing a Yahoo search for some classic US TV shows and found that most of them were being shown but on obscure networks with abbreviations like FAMLND.

How can I find out what area these networks cover (I can't find their details on the net)?

The channels you are asking about is offered by American cable or satellite program providers. It is a subscription television service, and has various levels of from "basic" to "premium".

The most common channels showing classical T V programs are "TVLand" and "ABC Family", both of which are included in the basic package. However, if you will be staying in hotels, or extended stay lodging, these companies may not purchase the full basic package. It sounds complicated, but you'll understand it once you get here.

If you like classic British television theres BBC America. Welcome to the "States. I hope your stay here is a productive & profitable one.

Now that cable is in almost every town and city, there are probably 300 plus separate channels.

Each town or area will have their own channels. My town has channel 5 as HBO. Chicago, about an hour away, will have a different channel for HBO. Gets confusing especially when they occasionally change local channels on us.

I don't know where you will be staying but am assuming a hotel in a major city. They will usually have a good selection of channels and if they are not on cable, they'll be on dish.I would guess the average place will have about 30 possible channels to watch. If you are staying with a private party, you may get lucky and have as many as 300 channels available.

I hope your stay is a great one.
