On the contrary, I would find it extremely flattering. Rats are one of the most intelligent animals which is why, unfortunately for them, so many cruel experiments are carried out with them. They have great survival skills, are smart/clever/quick-witted and are also highly communicative, demonstrative and affectionate. You'll never get bored with a pet rat as they are always up to something!

I think a lot of people are thinking that you were going to name your daughter after your rat...

However, I think it's nice to name a pet after your daughter, especially if there's a reason like yours behind it. But, it might be nice to have some variety in names around the house if you're living together.

I suggest you call it a variation of your Daughter's name rather than her actual name, that way you still get the essence of why you did it but you've put more thought into it (always a plus) and it's not like the rat has then 'stolen' her name from her.

If you're not living together, tell her it's because you miss her and because she can't be there, the rat with her name is there instead as a symbol of her.

Yes. Shared names is something that makes people feel uncomfortable. If I was named after my grandmother I would probably be upset. To share a name with a rat would upset me because a rat is not a highly loved animal and also because it would make things confusing. I think the best choice is to ask your daughter. If she is truly okay with it(make sure she isn't just saying she is) then it's okay. It is cute because she was born in the year of the rat though.

If there is any way you think she would be offended dont do it. Ask your daughter to name the rat. That way she had a part of the whole process and you wont risk making her upset being thought of as a rat.

Rats are loyal and loving (just like me) and I was born in the year of the rat as well!

If I was your daughter, I wouldn't want to be known along with the rat as "the rat twins".

It would just be a bit weird having a rat as my twin!

I think I would be. It depends on the name of your rat. But I would not do it. She may be made fun of as a child in school or grow up to be odd because of this. Give her a powerful popular will grow up to be successful and not made fun of name.

I think it would depend on the temperament of the rat, but due the fact I am a male, I can not speak for how a daugher might think about it.
