Each state within the US has the constitutional right to set its own requirements for marriage, and which marriages performed outside its jurisdiction it will recognize. All 50 states have an agreement to recognize the marriages performed in the other states. In general marriages performed outside the US will also be recognized. Most states in the US have laws how closely related a bride and groom can be. In most states it is illegal for first cousins or closer to get married. This is to prevent inbreeding. However, science has recently discovered that first cousins can be genetically different that there isn't a significantly higher risk of deformities (however, this risk increases with each generation that marries someone this closely related).

Peace!
I have a first male cousin very much in love with my girl second cousin. But the mother of the male don't like the idea because there are two couples in our community who got married even though they are cousins who gave birth to two mentally retarded children. I've asked Catholic priest on the problem of my cousin and I was told that we have to seek for the permission of the Bishop to allow them to be married in the Catholic Church. Then I asked the Chinese grandmother of my friend also and she told me it depends on the blood link of the cousins. If both of them are children of the male members then they should not be allowed to get married because of genes. The male genes are strong and it will have a negative effect on their children which is true because of the case of the two couples in our community. But if the blood relations are from the female members then they can be allowed to get married. So you have to check it first if your father and her father are cousin, then you should not continue your relationship because of the consequences that your children might have a psychological abnormality.
I hope that I was able to help you. Good luck!

It depends on where you live, in some places it is legal, in others it is not legal. In the UK you can legally marry your cousin, however, they do say there is a higher risk of birth defects, not always, but it can happen. Personally I would not marry any of my cousins!!!

matrilineal cross cousin marriage i.e. ego's father's sister's daughter is fit for marriage for him was a distinct social custom of Vedic Aryans, this practice is still found in south Indian Brahmins and in some Aryan tribes of Himalaya.

Stop posting these "Can I marry my cousin" questions. NO. It is not appropriate/moral/acceptable to marry your first cousin.
