I am having trouble making an agreement on how to pay the deposit for a reservation at a youth hostel in Reykjavik. They are not answering my mails and I fear it is because they do not understand my English well enough...can anyone assist me with this?

I speak Icelandic (I'm from Iceland), but there is no way that hostel staff in Iceland doesn't speak English. Most Icelanders speak English and nobody can get a job in tourism here without speaking English. Maybe they are just not receiving your mails or something. Are you sure the e-mail address you're using is correct?

As others may have mentioned, its quite impossible for any country to accept employees in the tourism industry who do not speak english. I would advice you to make a call instead for any clarifications. It could be their server is down or the like or simply you have the wrong email.. calling is the best way to deal with people, although you would have to spend.. its much better than making a mistake on the payment transaction

If they're operating a hostel in Iceland they do understand English.

In my experience it will not be because they do not understand English.
