i have seen a lot of christians equating homosexuality to murder, adultery etc etc......but there is a difference isn't there? in murder, the victim doesn't consent.nor does a victim of theft.....the spouse of an adulterer doesn't consent to his/her spouse doing that.....in all these examples,a person is HARMED.

but why is homosexuality in this group?

it's between 2 consenting adults and neither is harming the other...

no insults please,i'm a hetero buddhist and i'm just curious....not attacking.

ok may be they're not "equal" but WHY is it a sin anyway if it's not harming yourself or anyone else?

It's a sin for the same reason that adultery and fornication are sins: Because it's sex outside of marriage. Period. In fornication, no one is harmed, the sex is consensual, and neither is harming the other. Yet it's still a sin.

We're supposed to save ourselves for marriage, and marriage was intended for ONE man and ONE woman.

I didn't make the rules, I just follow them.

"The Bible consistently tells us that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9). Romans 1:26-27 teaches specifically that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God. When a person continues in sin and disbelief, the Bible tells us that God “gives them over” to even more wicked and depraved sin in order to show them the futility and hopelessness of life apart from God. 1 Corinthians 6:9 proclaims that homosexual “offenders” will not inherit the kingdom of God. However, the Bible does not describe homosexuality as a “greater” sin than any other. All sin is offensive to God. Homosexuality is just one of the many things listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that will keep a person from the kingdom of God. According to the Bible, God’s forgiveness is just as available to a homosexual as it is to an adulterer, idol worshipper, murderer, thief, etc. God also promises the strength for victory over sin, including homosexuality, to all those who will believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation (1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17)." We all sin. We do it every day. Whether it's thinking badly of the guy on the bus who looks different or murdering the guy on the bus, sin is sin. Any bit of it will keep us out of Heaven and apart from God. But that's the great thing about Jesus. He doesn't ask us to be perfect like Him. He just asks us to admit our weakness, accept Him as our Savior, and try WITH HIS HELP to not sin anymore.

All the bible is the word of God. The Bible says if any man looks upon a woman Lustfully he has commited adultery! This shows that God doesn't care how big or small WE think the sin is. Sin is sin. JUDGES 19:22 says "While they were enjoying themselves some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house that the old man owned shouting "Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him!" The owner of the house went outside and said to them "No my friends, don't be so vile! Don't do such a disgracefull thing! here is my virgin daughter and a concubine! Use them and do what you will with them"

This passage shows that the man would rather them defile his virgin daughter and concubine than to commit the travesty of homosexuality. God is evident and not hidden in scripture concerning this.

Dear Curious,

I have read the Bible and various interpretations thereof and so I am able to provide you with some specific and concrete information on this topic.

There is no mention of homosexuality in anything that Jesus said, nor is there any mention of it in the Ten Commandments.

There is no mention of female homosexuality anywhere.

Homosexuality is mentioned in the part of the Bible that forbids us to eat pork meat.

Some people refer to the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, but others say that the persons punished in this story violated other social norms and their homosexuality was not the reason for their punishment.

Some people think that like the ban on pork meat, male homosexuality was forbidden for reasons that were important at that time in history, but today the situation is different.

Like "spilling their seed on the ground" (masturbation), male homosexuality could lead to fewer babies being born into a new church where they wanted to increase their membership by reproductive means and so this is one probable reason why it is mentioned in the Bible at all.

Below is a link to the Metropolitan Community Church, for lesbian and gay Christians and their families and friends. They publish literature with new interpretations of the appropriate parts of the Bible.

It is also interesting that apparently there were gay marriages among early Christians.

A special point should be made about Roman Catholicism, because they do not allow any kind of sex other than for reproduction for anyone regardless of sexual orientation, so it is not surprising that they are against homosexual sex, as it cannot lead to pregnancy.

However, modern Catholics (and some other kinds of Christians) do not equate homosexuals with murderers. Their motto: "Hate the sin, love the sinner". They demand that homosexually oriented people not act on their homophilic feelings.

Many Protestant churches and even the "Old Catholic" church allow gay marriages at the present time.

Anything displeasing to God is a sin. Simply and plainly. If God thought cars were displeasing then the use of them would be sinful simply because of his greatness. The Bible says "God is no respecter of persons" Meaning that there need be no explanation to man for his rules and guidelines.

Consent does not matter in sin. 12 year olds have often consented to the advances of 40 year old men. Is it not still wrong? God considers homosexuality a perversion of the mind, and can only be forgiven through repentance and remission.

Hope I helped! Good Luck

I agree with kentgru that a sin is a sin. Happy Fe.. however is incorrect concerning wheather or not the Bible mentions female homosexuality. It certainly does in Romans the first chapter. I want to make this clear no sin is self contained. Be it fornication, adultery or homosexuality.... consenting or not when you participate in it with someone, you are causing them to sin, you are causing them to disobey their creator therefore coming between them. This is not love. It's sin. They are doing the same to you. It's mutual sin.

Sin, no matter what it is, is anything that goes against God's will. Just because 2 consenting adults think it is ok, does not make it so, in the eyes of God. Unmarried heterosexual partners who have sex are consenting adults as well, but sex outside of marriage is sin in His eyes. There is harm in any sin- to the person who commits it.

Well, if you gave someone AIDS, that would be about the same as murder, voluntary or involuntary. It is comparable to adultery in that both involve sexual acts. I have even heard of a preacher who was unfaithful to his wife with another man; she caught them in bed together. (His wife was a friend of my wife's.) One problem I personally find with homosexuality (and bi) is that so many of them are promiscuous, and that makes it dangerous - like playing Russian roulette. I try to keep an open-mind, but I feel that the practice and lifestyle is not a good one, tho I do not preach against it like some do.

"in all these examples,a person is HARMED." Well, you see, sometimes a person is harmed. As long as they are careful, I can not carp to much against it, but sure as hades have no desirre to try it.

Hope you did not find this insulting, or attacking. Just mho.

I didn't know that Christians released a list naming homosexuality an "equal" with murder, adultery, etc.

A sin is a sin. People may treat them differently, but in God's eyes, they are sins.

Romans 1 says that it occurs when people stop thanking God for things he has made, and start believing in evolution etc. They exchange the glory of God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

They develop sinful desires in their hearts. Galatians 5:24 also talks about the sinful desires of the heart. So does James 1:14. It is epithumia, or turning about sudden periods of rage or passion that are maddening like wine. NLT puts Romans 1:21 this way: "Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. The result was that their minds became dark and confused."

Ephesians 4:17, which is a cross-reference for "skotizo" (dark) - actually it's the verse before, the cross-reference is verse 18 - says that "vanity" of the mind is "what is devoid of truth and appropriateness, perverseness, depravity, frailty, want of vigour." 2 Peter 2:18 also says that same thing. "They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With lustful desire as their bait, they lure back into sin those who have just escaped from such wicked living."

There's a whole list of characteristics of the way of homosexuality in Romans 1. Here's some.
They "dishonour" (to dishonour, insult, treat with contempt) their own bodies that could be used for honourable purposes with God's permission. (Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? - Romans 9:21)

Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful.

Read 2 Corinthians 4 for what a ministry for Jesus is like.
