"The Veil" by Dawud Wharnby Ali
listen to song: http://www.lightuponlight.com/islam/modules.php?name=Stream2&file=index&lid=384

They say, "Oh, poor girl, you're so beautiful you know
It's a shame that you cover up your beauty so."
She just smiles and graciously responds reassuringly,
"This beauty that I have is just one simple part of me.
This body that I have, no stranger has the right to see.
These long clothes, this shawl I wear, ensure my modesty.
Faith is more essential than fashion, wouldn't you agree?

This hijab,
This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
For all the world to see.
A simple cloth, to protect her dignity.
So lift the veil from your heart to see the heart of purity.
They tell her, "Girl, don't you know this is the West and you are free?
You don't need to be opressed, ashamed of your femininity."
She just shakes her head and she speaks so assuredly,
"See the bill-boards and the magazines that line the check-out isles, with their phony painted faces and their air-brushed smiles?
Well their sheer clothes and low cut gowns are really not for me.
You call it freedom, I call it anarchy."
This hijab,
This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
For all the world to see.
A simple cloth, to protect her dignity.
So lift the veil from your heart to see the heart of purity.
They say, “Sister of Belief, you are so strong; Your scarf is a flag of this faith where you belong. She just smiles and drops her gaze and then, says with humility, “I did not wear this shawl at all less than one year ago. I’ve been judged, misjudged, and misunderstood by those who do not know that faith cannot be measured by the garments that we sew. Beauty and Faith: objects reduced to a fashion show,
This hijab,
This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
Between my God and me.
A simple cloth, to preserve her dignity.
So lift the veil from your heart to see the heart of purity.
Lift the veil from your heart and seek the heart of purity.

I just wanted to add that I live in the United States of America and I am much more likely to be stoned because I cover myself. Noone makes me cover; my family is not even Muslim. Also, whoever is saying that Muhammad is not in the Bible and that he betrayed God, then you don't know what you're talking about. You need to check your information because there is no such chapter in the Quran; I just double checked to see if perhaps you were taking something out of context, but this chapter does not even exist. If you want to verify that, I will send you a Quran free of charge. Islam says nothing of what you mentioned. Also, I don't know why some people are so insecure that they devote their time spreading lies about other people's religions rather than good things about their own? Interesting.

More corrections: the second verse you mentioned does not mean that it literally went into a black sea (which is the proper translation). Secondly, do you know what the age of consent in the US was until the year 1886? 6 years old! That was only 120 years ago, so how can you judge a man for doing something that was morally acceptable at his time 1400 years ago? In 1886, the state of California raised the age from 6 to 10 years old, and then slowly other states followed suit until some stopped at 16, 14, etc. In fact, Aishah was engaged to another man before she married the Prophet, which shows that this was the norm for that time. You shouldn't speak without knowledge!

By the way, how do you know who was saved by God? Only God knows who will be in Heaven and who will be in the Hellfire. You just might be surprised!

Oh, I wanted to add that Muslim women are not the only ones that are required to dress modestly; Muslim men are also required to dress with modesty. They are required to cover everything between the navel and the knees, but have you ever seen a Muslim man walk around without a shirt or in shorts? No. Also, check out this link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=9H_5K1Mns40&mode=related&search=

These lyrics are really beautiful. It serves as a true reminder of what Islam is.

Many people may think that women who wear hijab lack freedom, but ironically it is the other way around, because these women are not forced to conform to fake standards of beauty.

Well, for my part, you, being a man, must spend rather less time traumatic approximately your look, and being in seventh grade, must spend somewhat extra time finding matters you find irresistible to do. You'll discover that a massive facet of your "variety" will come from matters that you just spend a while doing. After all, it is regularly bigger to be attractive to women due to the fact you attach on a few degree instead of simply enchantment. Why no longer take a look at out of doors physical activities (rock hiking is a favourite of mine), indoor physical activities, or the humanities. As for looking to quilt your listening to aids...I particularly do not believe it is integral. Why attempt to conceal anything that's a facet of who you're? I'm definite your two-inch bleached tipped hair is lovable...despite the fact that, I, individually, am no longer particularly keen on the blonde pointers. Be who you're and your variety will simply certainly fall into location! As for non-pricey areas to buy, take a look at H&M in case you have one available in the market, Kohl's, Aeropostale, or thrift retail outlets (I'm definite you have got to dig there, however I have determined a few fine matters). Oh! And P.S. Please do not opt for the false tanning. Being light is regularly bigger than false!

The only person who is supposed to see a woman's beauty is the husband. Other people seeing it is a sin. This is why we don't have as much prostitutes in our countries as other countries.

By the way, whoever said that Muhammad was not mentioned in the bible & stuff like that, wake up, Islam was revealed after the bible. Some people can be so stupid!

The contradiction here is that Vanity is also considered a sin. To wear the hijab is to say to all those who see, "I am a pure and pious girl, humble, devout and good."

To be modest is not to show any outward symbol for all to see. In Casablanca I have seen, oh too many Moslem women who are victims of their culture and religion, begging in the streets and some too sick to stand or cover themselves as you would.

I ask you. Are they not more modest and humble than you? Are they not dearer to God than you are?

I am not criticising, but your heart can’t be pure if you believe what you said.

Praise be to Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful...

Beautiful poem i would say... MASHALLAH... Sister i got another poem about muslim women...

What do you see when you look at me?
Do you see someone limited, or someone free
All some people can do is just look and stare
Simply because they can't see my hair
Others think I am controlled and uneducated
They think that I am limited and un-liberated
They are so thankful that they are not me
Because they would like to remain 'free'

Well free isn't exactly the word I would've used
Describing women who are cheated on and abused
They think that I do not have opinions or voice
They think that being hooded isn't my choice
They think that the hood makes me look caged
That my husband or dad are totally outraged
All they can do is look at me in fear
And in my eye there is a tear

Not because I have been stared at or made fun of
But because people are ignoring the One up above
On the day of judgment they will be the fools
Because they were too ashamed to play by their own rules
Maybe the guys won't think I am a cutie
But at least I am filled with more inner beauty
See I have declined from being a guy's toy
Because I won't let myself be controlled by a boy

Real men are able to appreciate my mind
And aren't busy looking at my behind
Hooded girls are the ones really helping the Muslim cause
The role that we play definitely deserves applause
I will be recognized because I am smart and bright
And because some people are inspired by my sight
The smart ones are attracted by my tranquility
In the back of their mind they wish they were me

We have the strength to do what we think is right
Even if it means putting up a life long fight
You see we are not controlled by a mini skirt and tight shirt
We are given only respect, and never treated like dirt
So you see, we are the ones that are free and liberated
We are not the ones that are sexually terrorized and violated
We are the ones that are free and pure
We're free of STD's that have no cure

So when people ask you how you feel about the hood
Just sum it up by saying, 'Baby its all good!'

Hope you like it sister

ADDED- for Muhammedlust..... what you pointed out about the muddy spring water... i would like to point out that verse to you... If you read the proper transalation of it... it goes that dhul qurnain saw the sun set in muddy spring water... for example many of us would see the sun setting behind the hills behind sea or even seem like its going into the sea... Its the angle we see from really.. but by logic we all know the sun revolves around... DONT WE??? But we see it this way though... Allah here does not say Allah himself sees it, but he says Dhul Qurnain sees it... another example.. if im a maths teacher and one of my maths student says 2+2=5 and i come to you and say my student said 2+2=5 it doesnt mean i dont know what is 2+2... PATHETIC muhammedlust... you say you were a muslim and even if you were its sad to see how you never understood about the true beauty of Islam... seriously pathetic... As Allah says he guides whom he he wills.... so you going astray aint going to decrease anything in the kingdom of Allah (swt) nor would it increase anything... At the end of the day your the LOSER....

The best way to get people to accept oppression is to convince them they're free or that oppression is superior to freedom.

I see the veil as oppression of women.

I am sorry, but I think that this is quite naive. I am sure that you are sincere. That is, after all, the goal of brainwashing.
