Young children learn from experience that stating an untruth can avoid punishment for misdeeds. Adult lying tends to be more sophisticated. A lot of this judgment depends on whether one counts tactful untruths, social insincerity, political rhetoric, and other standard adult behaviors as lying.

sometimes we lie because we are afraid and sometimes we lie because we do not want the person we love to feel hurt. There are many reasons for a person to lie. It could be for the good of everyone. Sometimes we lie to cover up the lie we have created. Sometime we are left with no option. Hope this helps. Of course I do not encourage anyone to lie, but people lie for reason and if they lie for a good course and we know that he/she has left with no option, maybe our silence is the best way to appreciate what he/she has done.
