If you are going to fry, grapeseed oil is much better. It has a higher smoke temperature so you can use a higher temperature and it won't be as obsorbed into the food. So in a way it is healthier for that kind of cooking. Like the others said, olive oil is good for other lower temperature recipes.

Depends on what you use it for... salads should be dressed with good olive oil, the flavour is much better.

You can pan fry in olive oil too but it will 'burn' if the pan's too hot. If you want to pan or deep fry (and I do) at high temperatures then you can add about 1/3 of a thinner oil. Grapeseed or sunflower oil is good for this.

I never use canola, it is only relatively new, developed as a cheap mass produced product. There is no such thing as a canola plant either... it's origins are from rapeseed, it's a scientifically bred derivative. It also contains (although in very low amounts) erucic acid which can cause heart lesions, and glucosinolates that can cause thyroid enlargement. And apart from that.. the taste, not for me. The only way I can describe it is it is similar to this... eat a nice medium/rare steak at a good restaurant, then follow it with a (insert multinational chain name here) burger, which one tastes better?

It depends on what your cooking! If you're making veggie burgers Grapeseed oil, if your cooking fries olive oil!
I however prefer sunflower oil when making fries! If you cook a lot with oil the Olive oil is better is a bit cheaper than Grapeseed Oil! Healthwise Grapeseed Oil is better!

We use olive oil for everything from cooking, to salads, to drizzle on bread at the table....buy the largest, cheapest cans you can find and enjoy all the health benefits.

Rachael Ray's Italian mother even uses it as hair conditioner before a shampoo, and as skin cream.

I have no experience with grapeseed oil, however.

Grapeseed is best for high temperature cooking. Olive oil is best for added flavor and sauteeing. Never deep fry with olive oil as it smokes too easily and is not designed for high temp. cooking.

Grape seed is a very good oil and contains antioxidants. Olive oil is world renowned and has been believed to have many positive properties. Its really so close and up to your taste and pocketbook as grape seed is a lot more expensive, at least where I live.
