I was watching something on tv tonight, this talk show, and this lady was arguing how being gay is a sin, it's in the bible. Does anyone know where in the bible is talks about being gay is a sin? However, I have my own opinions sure, but does it not also say in the bible we should not judge others, that only God can judge? So, I wish I could've used her tactic against her but.... Anyways, I've been looking everywhere, and I can't find it anywhere, someone please tell me where I can find this issue in the bible? Thanks so much!

Before we look at gay marriage / same sex marriage, first we have to remember what the Bible says about homosexuality. The Bible clearly and consistently tells us that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9). God does not create a person with homosexual desires. A person becomes a homosexual because of sin (Romans 1:24-27), and ultimately because of his or her own choice. A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person choosing to sin by giving into their sinful desires. If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger / rage, does that make it right for them to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true for homosexuality.

tonalc, you seem to have no idea of the structure of Jewish laws ; there are different types. Suffice to say eating and sex are in different categories.

17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

Also we are not judges or homophobes.
Firstly, there is a difference between knowing what is right and wrong, and judging to say that gay=go to hell. We have merely stated scripture.
Second, we are not afraid of gay people, we just say that homosexuality is not supported by the Bible.
Third, you'll notice that homophobe = same + fear, meaning fear of doing the same thing too much. Do the English language a favor and not use that word again.

also, not many people sell their daughters into slavery.

The bible does talk about homosexuality being a sin, abomination. But I would like to address the issue of judging. We are supposed to judge with righteous judgement.

Jesus said to remove the beam from your own eye and then you can see clearly to pull out the mote that is in your brother's eye.

Liking the same gender is not a sin, but the act of sodomy is. Sex is a bond that is tamed as a couple court, or date, and becomes perfected as when "The two become one flesh." Jesus said that if a man even looks at a woman lustfully, that he has already committed a sin, and so it is not love that is the issue, but sex and lust. To answer your question as to where it is, in 1 Corinthians 6:9 it says, "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders." Not homosexuals themselves, but only the offenders. God loves all of his people, but only hates their sinful ways.

Leviticus 18 and Romans 1 are both passages that speak about the sin of homosexuality. You are right God will judge, but He also tells us in scripture what is right in His eyes and what is wrong. When God says not to judge, it means that we are not to ignore our own sin, and point fingers at others- we are to look at ourselves first and then in a loving way help others to overcome their sin through Christ. Does this help?

Romans 1 is where it is.

Check out Romans 2 as well for the caveat against using it as a convenient way to judge outsiders to the faith.

Also see 1 Corinthians 5:12
What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?

This is how Romans 2 says that passing judgement on others is taking away God's role and God is against that in itself. But pointing attention to what the Bible says about homosexuality is not the same as passing judgement, especially when it comes to the affairs of life in terms of discrimination etc.
It says: "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere human, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?"

Hi honney, it was their tactic to make you read all over the bible to find it. If you think you can do that just read the whole bible and you will find many things else interesting. Otherwise, just believe in God and happy to live with the way God made everyone in his own path.

I won't include the verses since many people have posted them, but I did want to point out that those verses say homosexual sex is a sin not being gay. A technical matter but still a matter just the same. (and I also have my own opinion on the matter which is not the same as the bible but that wasn't your question so I'll just shut the hell up now. :)...)

You can actually find it as early as Genesis, chapter 19.

EDIT: Missy Mouse is absolutely RIGHT. It's looking only more and more like being gay is a natural phenomenon, but if that's true, that doesn't mean you have to perform gay acts if you're worried about the spiritual complications of it. If a person is naturally more violent than Average Joe, the person doesn't HAVE to become a serial killer, does he? Sin is in our nature. Religion is supposed to be about SUPRESSING that sin in our nature.
