well.
You seem like a bright person, and what you're saying makes some sense. But you shouldn't go around asking silly questions to parade your knowledge when you know for one reason or another there is a simple answer. So maybe you should try some other method of showing off, because I'm pretty sure people around you don't necessarily like you showboating. ^_____^
sorry if i seem arrogant. that wasn't my intent.

For fun and profit. Also the water skiing.
You've been reading too much Deepak Chopra. You're also assuming the existence of a deity in your attempt to prove its' existence. That is a logical flaw.
Your individual "religious experience" means nothing to me. Religious experience has been duplicated in the labratory by stimulating peoples temporal lobes with electromagnetic pulses. Epileptics and migraineurs may have religious experiences in their attacks which in the past were interpretated as heavenly visitations or demon posession. Joan of Arc had her "visions" during seizures. Religious profundity can be induced with psychedelic drugs, and for many people these are permanent or long lasting experiences after the drug has left their system. People in deep meditation can achieve a form of religious euphoria.
To reiterate: your subjective personal experience that convinced YOU PERSONALLY of god is meaningless to anybody else.

What I got from all of that was,
"Why do you argue when I'm obviously right?"
If they kept their personal god (slash religious experience) as their personal god (slash religious experience) then that would be fine.
Unfortunately we live in a society dominated by the religious. When you are outside of that religious mind trap, you realize how disturbing some of the things we do in our society really are.
But overall there is the smell of fried onions.
There is no governor anywhere.

Christians aren't supposed to argue.
Philippians 2:14, 15
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, "children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation."
This is because God saves. People can't. Psalm 49:7 - No one can redeem the life of another or give to God a sufficient ransom.

In my experiences in here, most Christians are simply trying to defend themselves against verbal attacks by atheists. Atheists, instead of being against religions and religious practice as their faith would profess, seem only more and more interested in attacking Christian practice and beliefs than any other group.
Christians are trying to reach EVERYBODY with their faith. Atheists just seem to want to quell Christians and Christians alone with theirs.
EDIT: iammeandnobodyelse's: "i have yet to meet a non religious person who has pestered me about Buddhism."
Then you must not be paying attention. I used to be stopped by buddhists all the time just walking between college classes. EVERY religion tries to spread its message, otherwise you wouldn't be an atheist-buddhist now.
As for me, I know that the non-religious don't want to hear another sermon, and that's what I try to avoid from giving them. I give them practical guidance and advice if I can, and usually do it in such a way that it makes perfect sense. THAT is how I witness to people; by showing the world that Christians actually CAN be right and intelligent in a world that tries to say that Christianity is full of crap.

I think atheists and believers enjoy arguing. It is fun to bend your mind around logic and to try to apply various permutations of logic and debate to a topic which has been and never can be resolved either way (if you think it CAN be resolved, you obviously need a lesson in irony).
Oh, and there are some athiets and beleivers who are just dogmatic and like to slam their opponents for the sake of it.

"Those who have experienced are convinced beyond doubt It is futile to argue on grounds "
then WHY do so many believers pester me trying to convert me? i'm a buddhist atheist and i'm really happy with my own religion even though i don't believe in any God or any other divinity and i have no problem with others believing but i DO have a problem with people trying to change MY life and telling me what to believe in.
BATS_FAN:Christians are trying to reach EVERYBODY with their faith. Atheists just seem to want to quell Christians and Christians alone with theirs.
don't you see that it's BECAUSE you try to "reach everybody" (i.e. impose your beliefs on everybody) that people find you irritating? i have yet to meet a non religious person who has pestered me about Buddhism.
i seriously think that if christians paid more respect to other people, they would,in turn GET respect.

From a Freudian point-of-view, maybe.
From a Skinnerian point-of-view, these people just haven't been "shaped" correctly. Perhaps with a little positive reinforcement, they'll come around.

If god is such a personal thing then why do so many christians try to push their beliefs onto others. If they would only keep their beliefs to themselves the world would be a much more peaceful place.

I don't argue, I state my opinion, facts, beliefs, and am pretty firm at how moral I am .
If no one likes this....I can't change that or other people. Just me! But, I won't tell someone something false to make them happy either.
