He didn't blame it on anybody. He needed fuel. So did a lot of other drivers.... but not all of them.
It was either "stop for fuel and finish in the top 10" or "run out of fuel and finish in the top 30".
Easy decision. His crew chief apologized to him (on the radio at the end of the race) for the fuel situation, but there wasn't a lot any of them could do about it.

I don't know what his stated excuse (if any) was, but the primary reason Tony didn't win the 600 was that he didn't have the car to win. He got some minor damage in one of the early wrecks, which didn't help.
As for the other guys getting lucky when the leaders had to pit for fuel, that isn't really fair. All three of those guys had been running at the front of the pack for most of the race, so they definitely had potentially winning cars. The fact that they got slightly better gas mileage didn't hurt, but if they had been running at the back it wouldn't have mattered would it?

He didn't blame anyone he needed fuel. He still had a awesome finish. I am just happy that he had a better finish than #48 at their own home track that makes it all worthwhile

Tony probably (I'm just guessing here) blamed A.J. Allmendinger for hitting Johnson and starting a huge wreck! I mean, it's never Smoke's fault!

He blamed it on no one. He just said "I don't calculate fuel" and left it at that.
I don't blame him for being frustrated.....He and Denny Hamilin have come so close to victory at least a combined 6 times and it hasn't happened yet. "Things are always better when you're winning..."

If I remember correctly Stewart was not as unhappy about fuel when we won at Kansas last year just like Mears won the 600 this year... What a cry baby! How could anyone be a fan of Tony, he is always being a jerk about stuff?
