I use a can of Pounce kitty treats. I call the cat and shake the can at the same time. They love the treats and they began to associate their name with the treats. After a while, I can call them without shaking the can and they still come running. I hope this works for you.

Honestly, I should know. I have five, my mother has four, and my grandmother has 16! The best thing to do, is say the cats name alot when you walk towards it, say it's name when it looks at you, and say it's name when you pet him/her. Really, it takes no time at all. I've got 3 adults and 2 kittens. The 2 new babies are from 2 of my 3 adults, (all spayed and neutered now) and are almost 3 months old. 3 months on the 7th of june to be exact. They have known their names now for about 3 1/2 weeks, just by me using these techniques.

Why not try this..
Everytime you want to give food to your cat try calling it name. In time when the cat used to it already it will come to you when you called their name assuming of getting food to eat. Try it. That what I had been doing to all my cat.

well..calling the cat when you go to feed it is prob the best way.
but you have to remember the difference between cats and dogs..dogs aim to please where as cats are like kings and do what they want when they want.
9 times out of 10 the cat knows him name..he makes the choice not to come! trust me i have had many cats over the years and thats seems to be the general thing.

It's funny. We had our kitten for just a day when we picked a name for her, and it was like it was meant just for her b/c as soon as we said it, she came running. She still comes running when we call her too, so it wasn't a fluke. Every once in a while she decides to ignore me, but for the most part, she comes running.

Often call the cat with its name enaf to for it to know you are giving him/her a name... The cat will get used to it then. Learning is a process.

Repetition of the name can help majorly.
And just keep calling it that name.
Don't just go "Here Kitty."
It will get confused when the next minute when you call
it, it's name

everytime u talk to it, call it by the name, hold it, pet it and use its name, but sometimes the name is just to hard or they don't like it, for them to listen to it. try for a few weeks with the name u have first
