I also am dealing with this issue with my Corolla 2003. I went to AutoZone for a free diagnostic test and they could only tell me that 5 or 6 problems could be responsible for the 'check engine' light coming on. Nothing definitive. I brought my car to the Toyota dealer then, and within a half hour they knew EXACTLY what was wrong - and surprised me by saying that it was still under warranty up to 80,000 miles.
At least get it diagnosed by Toyota, then if it's not under warranty, you can take it elsewhere to have it fixed more cheaply.

You need to take the car in to get it diagnosed to determine why the check engine light is coming on.
Parts stores such as Autozone will allow you to read the codes with a code reader for free, so you can get an idea of what is wrong with the car.
A check engine light turning on, typically means an emissions related component has detected a problem, but it is difficult to solve unless you know what emissions component is the one that is triggering the check engine light.

CALL YOUR NEAREST TOYOTA SERVICE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE YOUR VIN HANDY. ITS THE 17-DIGIT NUMBER LOCATED ON YOUR INSURANCE PAPER WORK, AND ON THE CAR. SOME COROLLA MODELS HAD A CAMPAIGN PROBLEM. IF YOUR MODEL OF COROLLA FALLS UNDER THAT CAMPAIGN THEN THEY CAN TELL YOU RIGHT OVER THE PHONE. TOYOTA MOTOR CO. ACTUALLY LISTED A FIX FOR IT. IT WAS TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) DEPENDING ON THE MODEL IT WILL BE TSB CODE: EG01604, EG01704, EG02604, EGO2804. WHICH WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE EXHAUST PIPE/CAT. CONVERTER OR IT MIGHT EVEN BE TSB EG01402 WHICH WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE OXYGEN SENSOR. BOTH PROBLEMS WHICH COULD SET OFF A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.

Check engine light, usually means there is a problem with the electronics somewhere, take the car to a mechanic or auto electrician. An auto lecky would probably be better, they can tell you if there is a problem or if your warning light needs fixing. Dont try to ignore or fix yourself anything to do with a warning light, certain things in your car will still be covered by warranty by the company that makes them, which will be void if you fiddle with it yourself. Get a proffessional to look at your car.

the o2 censor is fine unless you have notice a dramatic change in how the car runs/drives. it could be a number of things such as the coolant censor (if youve noticed the temp gauge not seeming right), you could have a bad fuel injector, bad air to fuel mixture, fuel pump going out etc. email me with more info and i will help you.

most common problem found on this vehicle is the O2 sensor located in your exhaust manifold. It may cost you $14.95 for replace it. If problem is not solved, consult an A.S.E. certified mechanic or your toyota dealer.
Good luck!

The first thing you always do is to check your cap and make sure it is on properly.
