What you can legally do depends on what state you are in. Some states literally require you to flee your home, if possible, rather than defend it.
The short answer to your question is that unless a criminal has made an overt threat, you are not justified in using lethal force. Even if a burglar is clearly armed, it he turns to flee, you are not entitled to shoot him in the back. The right to use deadly force ends when the threat ends.
As for getting into a knife fight with a burglar, that is an absolute last resort sort of situation. I've nevere seen a knifefight in which both participants did not get cut to some extent.
Failure to call the police in the event of a burglary is stupid. If you manage to overcome and seriously injure or kill a burglar, without that call for help, there is a good chance you will get a murder, or at least a manslaughter charge brought against you.
Don't tell a burglar what you have and don't ask if they are armed. They are criminals, they will lie! Tell the burglar,"I am armed (whether you are or not), and the police have been called, you'd better get the hell out of here. NOW!"

I'm not certain a knife is the best defense against an intruder.
If he's inside your house, you life is in danger. Your calling the police may just alert him that he's been found out. He might run, or he might just get angry and kill you. A knife is not much defense, unless you know how to use it to stop somebody.
A panic button is better. That's a button that silently alerts some monitor who calls the police. They are calm and have all the information necessary to direct the police to your location.
Unless you plan on confronting the guy, find someplace to hide and play dead.
If you want to confront the guy, again, a knife isn't the best tool with which to do it.

I was going to answer this question, but I'm too busy laughing at you for typing in that idiotic abbreviation thing that all the "youngsters" are doing now. What the hell is the matter with you? Is your brain that freakin' lazy?! TYPE REAL WORDS, SLACKER!!
Besides, the stuff in your question is nonsensical, like you don't have an accurate conception of what actually would be happening in such a situation. ASK him if he's armed? Oh, like you'll be sitting around a coffee table doing an interview? Puhlease.
Time to grow up. That "l33t speak" garbage just makes you look DUMB, my friend.

So, you have asked this question twice now and you asked about being a chemical engineer three times. Are you looking for a general consensus?
If someone breaks into your house you have the right to defend yourself. You won't know what type of weapon, if any, that the robber has.
No one can reasonably predict the outcome of such a situation.
Hope this helps.

Calling the police might definately be the 1st element to do. whether you recognize a martial paintings i might propose conserving that knife, simply by fact an unarmed man or woman, whether he's the terrific martial artist in the worldwide, is at a large draw back whilst it the different man or woman having a knife, or the different form of weopon for that rely. it truly is recommended to to get out of the domicile and get some help, simply by fact a knife, whilst clever, skill you will might desire to get close to to the guy, and he might have a sawed off shotgun for all you recognize. if your reason on staying although, hiding untill he gets close to to you will possibly desire to do the trick, only make valuable he doesnt see you first..

If the perp (that's cop-talk ;-)) is COMPLETELY inside your domicile, then you have a right to protect your life and the other lives, with as much force as necessary. In other words, "take him out" and then leave it up to the cops and the courts. Remember this quote: "I thought I saw a gun."

Laws vary by state, but remember, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. IMHO, you have an inalienable right to protect yourself & your family.

My favorite weapon.......baseball bat after you break bottle with it. This way the glass is embedded in the wood and leaves a few more beauty marks. Keep one next to your bed. Intruder comes in, hit him right in the face with it. then ask him if he's packing, when he answers hit him again in the knee cap, if he reached....one more time in the head and call the police. Check him while he's out, if he has a gun check it out then put it in your nightstand for when he comes back................

I know I personally would shoot the bastard! thats why I have a gun...for defense! Depending on what state (if in the U.S. anyway) you are in, the laws very from state to state, but in most you can defend yourself from a burglar.....only those really wacky liberal states are you not allowed to defend yourself....
