i agree with you, but you know nascar wants to go global eventually, mexico and canada are just the tip of the money laden iceberg...their concern is the money factor...i fear the worse is yet to come

Very true. I started being a fan of racing in general since the 50's. I am not sure what year but I couldn't wait to see the only race they showed back then, the Daytona 500. I've gone to several cup and Busch races and loved them.
Now I watch the original tracks of nascar and that is it. That is even hard to do sometimes and don't' do it most of the time. Don't and will not watch a new market cookie cutter race.
And then the BIG TV deal came along and they change a bunch of the rules to make it look like it was a round ball sport to attract these folks in. They for got about what and who helped make the sport popular. When the first year came around after the tv deal and they made ESPN stay outside of the race track I just couldn't believe my eyes. Almost all the drivers showed the class and did go outside of the track to do the interviews too.
All the big fines I don't understand either. 100,000 dollars for the wrong bolt, 100 points off the driver points for something he had nothing to do with. WOW that just weird.
Your right about the end of the day too. I happened to turn the channel to a race they were at some where and when I turned it on DW made the comment that if they see the debris on a debris caution they will show it to you on caution. They didn't find it.
Some how they have all these newbies now who don't have a clue, that are all experts. They want all the rules changed to make them happy. So what does nascar do they change them. How disgusting is that.
If a race is set to run 500 laps or miles then that is it. If you can't red flag the race give them a yellow warm up lap and then a green white checkered when you start back up the race is over PERIOD. That is that, end of show.
Lets get them back to racing the way it used to be. There was not a thing wrong with the old rules. You knew what was going to happen if you bumped someone. You were going to get bumped back. Now you get warned not to retaliate and if you do, your fined and black flagged if not suspended.
Sorry to carry on so much but you are so right.

The "new" NASCAR is not the sport that it once was.The new "IMPROVED" version is geared toward GQ and Wallstreet. The fans that have been shelling out 300 to 600 bucks a weekend are forgotten. The Win Sunday sell Monday is a thing of the past.
At one time you rubbed elbaows in the stands with company officials looking to sponsor a team now these are the softies that sit in the A/C suites and don't know a fuel pump from a ignition box.
NASCAR is a GQ fashion show with the most popular as the winnier.

I do love NASCAR. I grew up with racing. My dad used to race back home (of course nothing big) just a big deal to the county we lived in. So I know what ya mean about the fines, points deductions and crap. It gets a little annoying, but I still can't help myself when the race is on. I'm glued to the TV like macaroni on construction paper! Would be nice to see a good stock car race though....maybe old school style!

I became a fan in the early 80s when it was a lot more real. I agree with Tony Stewart about racing today, it's just too much like wrestling.

I agree with you. NA$CAR is a big soap opera anymore.
It hasn't been any good since 1982.
