The standard paper tube, they will do what they want with it. You can also hang it as a swing but I've found they usually just want it down at that point (although I had one hamster obsessed with untying the ribbon, she wanted it in her nest and wouldn't leave it alone for days until she figured out the knot). I have made the chew boxes by putting treats (bird seed and cut up dried fruit) folded into part of a paper tube folded up so they had to open it or chew their way into it. Also, stuffing a paper tube full with timothy hay and alfalfa grass, they need and want it anyway and it gives them something to work for while keeping it neat. Plus they get the tube to chew on afterward.
Basically take a look at what you see at the store and see if it's something you think you can make yourself. They won't mind if it's not as pretty, they'll like it just the same.

The easiest is to give the hamster an empty toilet paper roll- or better yet, an almost-empty toilet paper roll, so the hamster can play with the last little bit of toilet paper and shred it into bedding. There's really no need to shred it for them!
The rolls get chewed up, but since we use lots of toilet paper in my family we simply replace the roll whenever we clean out the cage, sometimes sooner.

I found out from my sister-in-law since her husband is so friggin' lousy in bed she uses a handheld massager thingy you know the kind for backs, we both got matching ones for Christmas last year. I haven't tried anything other than my hand. I like the left one best. I'm right handed when I use that hand it's too tense but I discovered that when I use my left hand it's a bit more relaxed and has a mind of it's own. Hope I've helped.

Try making a maze out of two by fours or tunnels out of pvc pipes that are big enough not to let your hamsters get stuck.
Have fun watching them run!

the center of the tissue roll is a good toy for the hamsters and safe too. you can use the tissue for their bedding (which is safe too). just shred them into pieces.
