I have a cat I found on my job about 8 months ago. I paid for him to be neutered and declawed also for his shots he was a house cat. One day he became very sick. I took him to the vet rather than to see him die at home I wanted to get the help he needed. The Vet said he had renal failure and he needed anti biotics and a I.V. I thought he would be fine. He indeed came out to be okay but the bill was $630. I don't have that kind of money. I found the cat when hes was 6 weeks old. I nursed him to health and he had a heart condition according to the Vet. I explained to them I could not afford such a high vet bill. I asked if I could make payments, they said yes but I would have to pay $30 a day until I get him out. I don't know who to turn to for help. My 4 children miss the cat his name is Jazz. Please send me some info on how to get financial help with my cats bill so I can get him home.

Report that vet as kidnapper! Did you sign the paper that saying you'd pay $30 per day? Tell him that you can either take my payments or keep the cat and get nothing! If that vet sees you don't care about that kitty, he'd change the mind. Also, report to BBB, Better Business Bureau.

Okay, let me get this straight....the vet is holding your cat hostage over the bill and charging you for the pleasure to boot. Nice...huh? Didn't he give you an estimate before he started any treatment especially their rules on payment arrangements or no arrangements? Our pets are not disposable I'm sure but sometimes the "kinder" thing to do would be to have him put down. He sounds like he's starting down a very expensive road for continuous care.
$30.00 a day is a rip off, girlfriend. Most vets charge about 10.00 a day for kennel care ....like if you had to be out of town and needed "kennel time" while you were away.
Call the vet and tell him that he will just have find this cat a new home and that you'll make payments on the balance but not pay for day to day care at 30.00 @ day. Tell him you will have to call the Better Business Bureau and make a complaint about being over charged on "services". and when you get all this resolved start "interviewing" other vets for their procedures. You also tell him if he euthanizes your pet you owe him nothing....

I'm so sorry. Your vet sucks. That is a mean thing, to say yes to the payments, but wont let you have him until you pay and then charge to keep him. Thats horrible. I think really the only thing you can do it so to the bank or something like that and get the money. Worst situation, use a credit card. Yeah the interest would suck, but it would still be cheaper than $30 a day and you would get your cat now. I would also, after this is done, get pet insurance. It will help you if anything else happens to your kitty. good luck!

In your situation, a bank loan might be better. For future, you may want to think of insurance for kitty. And when you can, change vets, this one is seemingly just making money from you, a cat does not cost $30 a day to keep. If he does pkayment plans why is he making the cat stay there?
Talk to the Humane Society as well, and see about a cheaper vet.

What kind of vet would do this. Report him to the humane society. It is sad to take advantage of one that worried about there kids health aka cat. I to am going thrue the a similar situation , my cat too is sick right now and I will be up all night till the vet opens up at 7:30 because I can not afford the 100+ to take him right now. I wish you good luck and a prayer for Jazz

I sympathise with you but nobody I have ever heard of will help with bills like this.
I have had similar expenses for years.
I seem to attract stray animals even though I have a dog and several cats of my own.It must be the smell of the food. I feed them outside.
Oddly enough the strays don't fight, they eat then settle down in the garden to a life of ease..
My bills for pet food come to more than my own groceries but what really sucks is the amount I pay out to the vet.
I hate to see animals suffer so every time one of them is sick it's another colossul bill to demolish my pension.
I rarely get out or take a holiday..I would feel guilty to leave them, even if I could save the money.
So you really do have my sympathy....... but not a very helpful answer.

Your vet Sucks...I've had problems paying my bills...but have Never had them keep my pet from me? Is that legal? Let me tell you I would definatley be behind bars myself....becasue if someone didn't let me have my Nadia becasue I couldn't pay for a life saving operation...I would break redneck on someone's @$$!! I would do whatever it had to take to get the money even if it means taking out a small loan to get the cat out...and never use that vet again!! What a cruel hearted jerk!! And why did anti-biotics and an I.V. cost $630.00!!

your not the only one in that situation,BUT most vets willl work out some kind of payment arrangements, if yours wont you should find another vet. In the mean time I would use my credit card or maybe borrow the money from family. If that doesn't work-how about trying to raise money somehow like a bake sale. My daughter had garage sales for extra money when she wants something. I hope these ideas help ya, and good luck.

Your cat is lucky to have you. However, you have to understand, most vets don't make a lot of money and if people don't pay their bills, they cannot keep their business running, and they can't help ANY sick cats then. Can you use a credit card?
This company offers credit, but the vet has to be a participant:

Good luck

Why don't you put an ad on Craig's list with your story and give the name of the vet and address and phone number and let people know if they would like to donate money to help your cat get home, you would appreciate it. I was on Craig's list and I saw a story similar to yours and I donated by calling the vet and giving them my credit info over the phone and how much I could donate. (The out come of this story, the women who posted the ad, replied by posting a thank you ad to tell everyone who donated, that she was able to take her new cat home. Try it, there are lots of cat lovers out there, who are willing to help. I am one of them.
