You didn't say what they wanted to hear. Doesn't matter how respectful you are, if someone doesn't agree or want to hear the truth they "thumbs down" you.
It's childish, but you really can't expect much better.

I usually just give thumbs down for rude, disrespectful answers, however many people do it to get a kick out of it or because they don't agree with the answer. If you think that's bad I have gotten deleted for a decent, non-rude answer.

I get thumbs down quite frequently in the Japanese section. At first I thought it had to do with the fact that I'm an American trying to answer questions about Japanese culture (I've lived her 41/2 years). I think with this Yahoo forum you're going to have people of all ages and maturities, and so you'll have to deal some pretty frusterating stuff sometimes. It's aggravating, especially when I put tons of effort into an answer just to get thumbs down. I only give thumbs down when an answer truely warrants it.

Rude, disrespectful and wrong answers get a thumbs down.
If I don't agree, they may get a thumbs down or nothing from me.

I only give thumbs down when they are being disrespectful or are spreading lies and attacking my church. I would never give a thumbs down to anyone who disagrees with me.

Everybody has their own reasons, and you can't expect everybody else to do it the same as you do. Maybe they just didn't like the way you worded it. And yes, some will give you TD because they disagree. It doesn't cost you any points, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I guess it works differently for different people. I for one am a very straight forward person, even in reality. I usually thumbs down people who give overly sweet/caring answers that don't help or answers that I don't even remotely agree with.
E.g. A questioner posted asked if people hate it when someone curses on a public bus or public area. A lady replied saying that she does hate it and especially so when there are children around. I gave her a thumbs down because I felt irritated that people always try to defend and try so hard to keep things wonderful around children. I personally find children annoying and i would rather hear someone curse all the vulgarities in the world than hear the annoying cries of a baby.
