Why do people feel it's perfectly OK to conduct their business, family or social life in doorways, on stairs or sidewalks or from their cars in such a way that nobody can get by? And why do they get upset when you try?

I have noticed that more and more and the people know that they are blocking other peoples way and they don't care, they just get too caught up talking and stuff. Its annoying and rude but oh well, there really is nothing you can do about it besides saying "excuse me", its a bummer right ;)

At the grocery store, I seem to always get stuck behind two elderly women - going in opposite directions so they can totally block the aisle - who haven't seen each other since ninth grade and are intent on catching up on every small detail of each others' lives since then.

People do it because they believe that what they are doing is infinitely more important than anything anyone else might need to do, that's why.

it's because they believe the world revolves around "them".

i agree. it's a blatant display of a complete lack of common courtesy. if i've been waiting to get through and i know that they know i've been waiting, i'll cut right in between the space that they are so rudely taking up. why not right?

It's because they're rude, insensitive, selfish, and just plain stupid with no concern for others, that's why. And you know why they get mad at you? B/c they think they're right and that you're bothering them. Did I say just plain rude? Obviously they don't have any manners also. Did their parents not teach them correctly?
