Warfarin has a narrow therapeutic window, which means that the difference between its toxic level and therapeutic dose level in the blood is very narrow. Too little, and its efficacy could not be produced. Too much, and you can die of warfarin toxicity. Therefore, warfarin is one of the drugs which require strict monitoring of warfarin level in patient's blood (usually once a week) as well as strict compliance to prevent the warfarin level in the blood to reach toxicity level.

There are two major adverse effect of warfarin, which are:
1) Haemorrhage
Bleeding is the most important adverse effect of warfarin. This could also involves internal bleeding in the organs, one of it namely the brain haemorrhage.

2)Teratogenic
Warfarin can cause serious birth defects (abnormal bone formation) and hemorrhage in the developing fetus and therefore, is contraindicated in pregnancy.

It has to be taken at the exact time to maintain its efficacy. There is a specified time to maintain its therapeutic level on the blood in your circulatory system. Taking it at exact time will maintain such therapeutic level.Taking it much earlier will result to higher blood levels and taking it too late will result to loww blood levels. Both won't bring any good- could have an overdosage effects or disadvantages of underdosage.
