My cat will come to people that ignore him, but if they try to get him to come to them, he ignores them. It's part of being a cat........

the best way to befriend a cat is to offer them a toy or a treat
you might want to stick to distance toys (long string, stick with a toy at the end-they sell them at most any pet store-just think: what can I use to play with this cat but still be able to keep an arms distance away?)
treats are excellent as well!
be sure to let the cat come to you on it's own terms-DO NOT PURSUE THE CAT!!
and approve any toys or treats with the cat's caregiver before offering them to the cat

when you look directly at a cat in cat language you are basically challenging them and showing your dominance. Try ignoring the cat or at least looking the other way. If you do look at the cat try to think in pictures of the cat allowing you to pet her, you can also look at her and slowly blink and think i love you at the same time. Cats use their eyes to communicate and closing your eyes in front of them shows that you are not afraid of them or an aggressor. Basically if you close your eyes that means you are not afraid they will attack you.

Don't pursue her.
Ask your friend if you can feed her. This might help.
Some cats are just not friendly with people they don't live with. It would take time to overcome this.
The cat's owner knows the most about this cat's temperament and preferences.
