Yes, remind yourself that the world was supposed to end on Jan 01, 2000 when the Y2k computer bug should have crashed all the computers in the world. Well, that was an exaggerated panic and so is "global warming".

The earth may be warming, but its cause and our ability to affect it not certain..

Climate prediction beyond the 5-day forecast on T.V. news is unpredictable. For example, following hurricane Katrina in 2005, U.S. hurricane predictions for 2006 were catastrophic, a ONE YEAR prediction. Well, the U.S. experienced a very uneventful 2006 hurricane season. What happened? The same climate models that Al Gore claims are now predicting a global disaster were wrong! The Old Farmer's Almanac is as good a long range prediction as any other.

Humankind can not control the earth's climate any more than we can control earthquakes, volcanoes, or the cycle of the moon.

Creating a global bureaucracy to regulate CO2 emissions, sell and trade "carbon offsets" is about the global control of people.

Energy conservation and air quality are important objectives. Other answers have already provided more than adequate suggestions. My advice is to simply be more aware of how you use (or abuse) energy.

After looking through the voluminous answers that arrived before me, I'll go out on a limb and volunteer what I was going to say. Do you have Google Earth on your computer? It's a free download. And when you can look at the Earth from space, see if you can see your contribution to the problem. Maybe you can see your city's contribution. Or you can behold just how large the biosphere is and how small a part that we are of it. I don't think we're (civilization taken collectively) is even a "blip" on the planet's RADAR. From a geologic point of view, can you imagine the uproar that the erosion of the Grand Canyon would have caused? This planet has survived horrendous change from molten beginnings to Ice Ages and asteroid impacts. Our little contribution won't be noticed in the long run, while we rush to judgment any time a new measurement alarms some small faction of the cognoscenti.

Definitely! There are many things that every person can do that take very little effort and can help. If everybody does just one or two little things, it will make a huge impact overall!

You can switch to compact fluorescent lightbulbs in your house instead of typical incandescent bulbs to save energy. You can also minimize energy usage in the home by turning off lights when unnecessary or when no one is in the room. Saving energy saves from the power plants that may pollute while making that energy to power your home.

Recycle whatever you can, from glass to plastic, paper to metals, try to recycle whatever is able to be recycled in your neighborhood.

Try to purchase items that don't have heaps of packaging. Things that are packaged individually for individual use packages inside use much more than bulk items, typically.

Try to ride a bike, walk, and take public transit rather than driving or having someone drive you. It will save the burning of fuel to get around.

Pick up trash when you can.

There's a lot of other little things that you can do that may not seem to make a huge difference, but if more people do it, there will be more of an impact. Hopefully, if people see you making changes, they will be inspired to think about their own actions too. That will also be like you making an ever bigger impact by influencing others to do better!

For one...Don't freak out about the whole global warming issue...Time is the only main factor here...I agree, we should do our part to help slow it down, but like so many others have said, with only a handlful of people wanting to do their part, isn't really going to make a HUGE impact on this whole global warming issue...BUT every little bit helps & we need to try to get more people on board the "green wagon"...The more the merrier. It's just a matter of time till we start seeing a 'bit' of a difference. Atleast you will see a HUGE difference on your bills!
I will say one thing...I am NOT selling my car for a hybrid. I am not buying into that one. I have already heard horrible things about the hybrids(besides their ugly looks)...We have a 4cl & we have cut back on driving to do our part there...we walk most of the time....

Just do your part by compacting, conserving, reducing, reusing, & recycling...Use common sense & you're good to go!!! God bless.

Anyhow, I agree partly with the skeptics, BUT we are highly eco-friendly & will keep doing so....

Yes, you can do something in your daily life to make a significant impact on stopping global warming in your lifetime.

"A Meateater on a Bicycle leaves a bigger carbon footprint than a Vegan in a Hummer!"

The production of meat & other animal products, including eggs, dairy & fish, is scientifically proven to be overwhelmingly detrimental to the environment.

Animal agriculture contributes to global warming as the main source to methane emissions plus other greenhouse gases during production. Methane is the worst greenhouse gas as it is 21x more potent than CO2 and causes more harm than all the other non-CO2 greenhouse gases combined.

"...by focusing entirely on carbon dioxide emissions, major environmental organizations have failed to account for published data showing that OTHER GASES ARE THE MAIN CULPRITS BEHIND THE GLOBAL WARMING WE SEE TODAY. As a result, they are neglecting what might be the most effective strategy for REDUCING GLOBAL WARMING IN OUR LIFETIMES: advocating a vegetarian (i.e., vegan) diet." http://earthsave.org/globalwarming.htm

Besides global warming, animal agriculture induces deforestation (we all know the role forests play in reducing global warming), land erosion, toxic runoff, habitat loss, etc. by taking up 10-20x more land than plant agriculture.

It's effect also includes a major contribution to the starvation of undeveloped countries, while the developed world gorges itself on Big Macs & all-you-can-eat buffets, due to the loss of fertile land & water to producing feed for the future meat.

It may be hard for those on a traditional diet to fully eliminate animal products from their diet, but just the small step of cutting back on animal products several times a week is an effective start at reducing your impact on the environment. Not to mention the positive impact, on animals that share our planet, when you reduce the suffering of many animals from the inhumane slaughter & caging practices.

Yes!, get use to take showers, by soaping and shampooing, without the faucet running water. As well that if you shave, cut the flow of water until you need to rinse, and become conscious of wasting.

Here are some Ideas------------------------------..
.
The best we can do as individuals is be more responsible ,in our own neck of the woods

Organise well publicized clean up parties ,talk on the radio
Have citizan meetings
Get the shools involved to plant trees and listen to environmental awareness talks,

If you do any cleaning up leave signs behind saying who cleaned, why and ask people not to start dumping rubbish again ,leave a hole or bins ,in case people come with trash ,

We have done a lot of comunity cleaning and if you dont leave alternatives or try to work on peoples guilt feelings (some people actually have those ,but not many)
than your efforts are a waste of time.

That is what we do in Mexico

POSITIVE ACTIONS
Print Tshirts with slogans ,hang posters all over the place (with recycled paper if possible)

Classify trash take out all the organic waste and make compost with it ,the worst you can do is throw it with the trash

70% of contamination is due to organic waste that is mixed in with the garbage .
And it is just as bad in the sewer where it helps to breed rats and in the landfill it poisons the ground

And it is the easiest to take care of
o first of all we have to clasify trash at least keep the organic to one side ,like in a plasic bin with a lid

If you got a few meters of ground ,you only need 1 or 2 square meters in a shallow hole ,in the shade ,that you can wet now and again ,where you dump everything that is organic ,from toilet paper, bones vegetable cuttings ,eggshells,,dead bodies ,excrement ,and cover regularly with leaves to keep humid and to hide any smell
the worms will come and decompose the wastes truning it into beautifull blck soil for the garden of flower pots .

If you are in a apartment ,if you have a balcony get a big plastic bin drill some holes in the side and lid ,

Add a few buckets of sand now and again to put over the trash ,you should realt stir or move the stuff at times to airate it and ensure that the decomposition is overall ,keep moist

This rubbish does not get big very fast and the thing works for a long time with out getting full
-----------------------------....
global warming cannot be stopped but we can stop helping it becoming faster, and being friendlier to out Environment cannot be bad

If you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to slowdown the destructive processes

Reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

The capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

The world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

The protection of existing forrests.

Stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

Education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

Education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´population

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

More environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

More dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

Alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

Recicling wastes,limit water use

Here are a 100 more ways

The temperature has changed a fraction of a degree, if this is 'alarming' I wonder how you'd handle a real crisis.

Start small by taking public transportation, growing your own garden, recycling, and using as much sunlight as possible.

Yes! Get the real facts and relax. The sun got hotter and you can't do anything about it.
