Hey I have wild curly frizzy hair! I straighten my hair every other day I want to get it permanently straight! How old do you have to be to do it? What damages does it do to your hair? How long does it take to do it? How long does it last?

Thank you!! <3

Chemical treatments can tame your mane and have become less damaging in recent years. There are many options, but your best bet is to consult your salon professional. They know your hair best and will likely advise you on several ways to achieve your straight hair.

Chemical processes are never damage free, but there are some less damaging than others. The same solution that is used to create permanent waves (a perm) can also be used to straighten hair with little damage. There are more intense thermal (also called Japanese) straightening methods that are permanent and work great on even the most kinky curly hair. The latter is quite an expensive route, I've heard it offered anywhere from $200 up in some areas.

The thing is, even with the best chemical straightener, the new growth will always be as curly as it always is. So, you'll have to have touch-ups done every 4 - 6 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows.

What you really need to do is ask yourself if it's worth the damage a chemical process will do simply to have straight hair and less to fuss with?

I would highly recommend asking a salon pro in your area. A professional that can see and feel your hair is the best person to give you advice. Most salons offer a complimentary consultation... what've you got to loose?!

best of luck...

I have that kind of hair too. I get thermal reconditioning (japanese straightening) done on my hair. It lasts forever on the hair that's done, but has to be redone about every six months because new growth will of course grow in curly. Each session takes about 4 hours and it costs me $400 (most stylists who can do thermal reconditioning charge more than that). No damage; my hair looks and feels better with this treatment than it ever did natural or using any other method. And the freedom of silky-straight wash-and-go hair is so worth it to me!

I tried to do it twice and it did nothing for me!
I have wild curly hair so it may have just been me or the person that did it.
It takes about an hour.
I have seen it work for some people, but they already have sorta straight hair.
It last 6 months to a year I believe and if it works I would say it is definitely worth it.
It may dry your hair but talk to the person doing your hair and ask the side effects ans see if you can fix it before it happens.

Thermo Reconditioning can make your hair straight for about 9 months. It takes hours to complete (~ 5 hours). No chemical processing is without damage to your hair, but if you choose a stylist who is very experienced and knows what they are doing, your hair will not look damaged. But for the first month, your hair will look rather limp. It is an expensive process, easily over $600, depending on where you live.

what ever you do dont get a chemiical relaxer.
they break off your hair... and its not healthy.
often it doesnt even stay like that for a while..
you have to keep getting it done every 4-6 weeks.
but if you do decide to get a chemical relaxer go with a lower streignth
for thin hair.
but the best thing to do is go to a stylist and ask him.
what is best for your hair type.
also get is blowdried or flat ironed first to make sure you like your hair like this!
get a cut to match your face.
an blow dried and flat ironeed last for about 1 to 2 weeks.
but dont let it touch water or you will ave to get it done again

The same damagages of getting a perm come with getting your hair perminatly straight. I know people who have done this and you still have to staighten your hair if you want it totally straight. I think it lasts like 3 months.

Buy yourself a "Perm Kit" .... use it as directed but don't curl ..... just straighten with a brush after you have put it on.

Keep brushing straight while it is drying.

chemical straighteners are never permanent. and they're very damaging to your hair and your scalp. i would suggest not doing it. i try to talk anyone i can out of doing chemical straighteners. they're very bad for your head.

don't do it....just have what God naturally gave you and still straighten it every once in a while when you want a change. everyone always wants what they don't have, just remember that!
