Kind of like a Final Fantasy belief of the "Guy-na" (soul) of the Earth.

L.D.S. Church presidents and apostles have taught that the Great Flood was the baptism of the earth by water. For example, Elder Joseph Fielding Smith summarized the idea thus:

FLOOD WAS BAPTISM OF EARTH. Now a word as to the reason for the flood. It was the baptism of the earth, and that had to be by immersion. If the water did not cover the entire earth, then it was not baptized, for the baptism of the Lord is not pouring or sprinkling. (capitalization and emphasis his)

"All the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered." (Gen. 7:19)

He went on to quote President Brigham Young, President John Taylor, and Elder Orson Pratt who also taught that the Flood was the earth's baptism. He was well aware of the line of reasoning against a universal Flood based on arguments about the current heights of mountains and current amounts of water, but he strongly testified that, notwithstanding the wisdom of man, the Flood did indeed cover every mountain top at least briefly.

If the earth had to be baptised that means that the earth was also being punished for the wickedness of the people during Noah's time. What did the earth ever do? How did the earth sin?

If everything had to be baptised or drowned including all the people and animals then why did he spare Noah and his family. Did Noah baptise all the animals after the water receeded or were the male elephants given the priesthood and sprayed water on everyone?

After the baptism of water comes the baptism by fire. Hmm...could this be global warming. Maybe the church is true after all. I better dig out my garmies!

Logically speaking, why so unbelievable?

If we believe man has a soul, why not the animals, or plants, aren't they a type of life form also? Their life form may not be blood and bone, but they sure are a living life form.

If they do not have life, how would they obey to the commands of God its creator? As show in Genesis.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

(Old Testament | Genesis 1:3)

And also in Matthew:

19 And when he (Jesus) saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

(New Testament | Matthew 21:19)

I have heard that before. It wasn't that all animals, plants and the Earth had a soul. It was they were all created spiritually first before they were created physically.

Gen. 2:5 briefly mentions this. It says"And every plant of the field before it was in the Earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the Earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

This scripture brings up the question- Where were the plants before they were on the Earth?

Remember this scripture was after the creation story which was in the first chapter of Genesis.

Who is the "they" that taught you this? Because it wasn't from any book, or the scriptures, or from the living prophet and apostles. You can't take some wild thing taught by some Institute teacher or Sunday school teacher or whatever "taught" you and say this is "Mormon belief", like everyone who's Mormon believes this.

Brigham Young expounded on Smith's notion that all material is organized spiritually before it's physical manifestation is made. This was another "Idea" that was neither Smith's or Young's, but another off-the-wall new-age (1830s) thought, but he/they took it one step further.

The resurrection will supposedly be applied to all things that once lived including: people, pets, cattle, horses, pigs, lions, fish, wheat, corn, algae, T-Rex , trilobites, parasites and bacteria.

Won't that be just so cool?
