the absolute only reason a 2 yr old would do that is because he hears people around him talking like that.

Your best bet is to stop cursing, and avoid exposing him to people who curse.

How can a 2 yr old understand that a word is "bad" words are words, they're either in his vocabulary or they're not. It isn't like he's speaking a foreign language; he had to hear it somewhere.

If you slip up and say a naughty word around him, fess up. "Uh-oh, mommy said a rude word, I should not talk like that."

THEN- and this is so much fun with 2 yr olds...REWIND.

push a pretend button in your hand and move silly like you're going backwards, re-enact the incident that inspired the naughty language and try again.

Kids get a kick out of watching you drop the coffee cup again or stub your toe again or whatever it was.

When your kid uses a word like that, do the same thing. "I think we need to rewind here." Give him the opportunity to do it over again and praise him for making the right decision the second time around.

He won't get it right away, you'll need to pre-explain what's going on. Any kid with a VCR will know what rewinding is. Show him the palm of your hand and let him know this "remote control" will help us correct our behavior.

We use the magic remote when kids are fighting, too. Just moving backwards helps lighten the mood, and un-hitting someone can be quite funny. So can falling up the stairs.

The best way to educate your two year old is by setting a good example yourself. You have to practice what you preach. I'm sorry to point it out this way but he is learning from you. You have to stop saying bad words. If not you than the question I would be asking is where is he learning this from??? Because children learn best by example. If it's not you than the babysitter, daycare, or preschool?? I don't know how well your two year old expresses himself, but you could ask him , "who says that word?" find out where its coming from and keep him away from who ever is saying those words. When he says the curse words, don't shame him or punish him. Just describe what you think he is feeling, "You are angry because your brother took your toy. It's ok to be angry but its not ok to say that word. I can help you ask for the toy."

well he's obviously picking it up from some place, so maybe watching what you say around him will be a start. Remind family and friends of the same thing too.
explain to him those are big people words and he can't use them until he gets older and it doesn't sound very nice anyway. it's hard because some 2 year olds don't quite understand that stuff yet. Remind him a few times and if it continues, give him time outs or spankings.
good luck

I told my 2 yr old son I was gonna put soap in his mouth, he kept saying the "F" word. After 3 times, I took him in the bathroom with the Dawn and put a teeny tiny dab of Dawn on his toothbrush and brushed his teeth with it. Nasty right? Well solved that problem. Now anyone who says an undesirable word, it doesnt have to be a curse word, just something ugly like "stupid" or something he says, "Don't say that ugly bad word! Mama's gonna put soap in your mouth!" Tell me 2 year olds don't know what's going on.

Find out where he is hearing these words from and make sure that stops.

Then punish him when he uses these words. Tell him "we don't say those words" and put him in a time out for 2 minutes. If that doesn't work try taking away one of his favorite toys. Or try ignoring it completely. Good Luck.

Children learn by example...where is he hearing these bad words??? It's hard to teach him that these words are bad if he hears mommy, daddy, grandpa, etc. saying them. No cursing around your son, and they will be words he doesn't even know.

I read a terrific book once that talked about getting people (even kids) to do things you want them to. The best way to make a child stop cursing is to make them not want to curse. Easier said than done? Not so.

Observe your child and see what activity he absolutely adores. For example, if his biggest love was fingerpainting, get the family together and finger paint. Just make sure to exclude him and let him know that finger painting is for children who don't curse. Allowing the child to make the choice not to do something is more effective than punishment and will be retained much longer.

Hope this helps.

My 2 year old heard f*** when the cable guy was hear fixing our cable, so of course the cable guy said opps I shouldnt have said that. so my kid started saying it. If you make a big deal out of it, they will keep doing. I told mine one time that, that was not a nice word. He said it more for a couple days, I ignored it, he hasn't said it again.

Also my grandma taught all her grand kids every bad word there was, my parents were worried about sending me to school because I cussed like a little sailor LOL But said once I started school it just stopped.
