Not necessarily. There's such a thing as encouraging spiritual and social reform from the inside. In other words, if you can help change your church, why leave it? Leaving may be an acceptable option for some people, but others would see it as cowardly. How can you be a positive force for change within an organization that you voluntarily turned your back on? I don't agree with all of the policies of my nation's government, either, but I have no plans to renounce my citizenship.

If you practice your faith just to practice your faith...without a personal relationship with God...then yes, it would be like staying in a relationship for the wrong reasons.
If you have a personal relationship with God, and are willing to let go of your own ego, He will tell you what you need to do and what you must not do through your spirit.

Before you leave your religion, study it for yourself, make sure that what you have been taught is correct. There are many false teachings in every Church. Study for yourself, then ask a more direct question.

I'm a Christian and I know God loves me and forgives me for my mistakes and the abortions I had to have. And now, I'm in a gay relationship, but now I don't have to have any abortions, so I am being a Christian, as best I can, and I am in his light. We are not perfect, but God knows and understands that we are an image of him but not a perfect one.
