My neighbors across the street allow their two boys (about 8-10 yrs. old) and their very large dog to constantly roam around the neighborhood, including my yard.

The dog is never on a leash, and the kids are unable to control where he goes. I wouldn't mind so much if the dog stayed in their yard, or if the dog had some obedience training. He never comes when they call him, and I also saw him go after a jogger last week...

The kids have been cutting through my yard to use the playground behind my house, which wouldn't be so bad if they wouldn't let my rabbit out of it's cage when they go through. At least three times now, the rabbit has been found loose, and those kids are the only ones I've seen in my yard....

I plan to put up a fence in the backyard, but they will still be able to come in the front. Any ideas on how to fix this without using brute force??? Should I just call Animal Control? Fence in my entire yard? Isn't it trespassing if their kids are in my yard?

Have you tried talking to the parents? Yes it is trespassing and you can call the cops and or animal control. You really should call animal control if the dog chasing people-the dog might hurt someone soon. You shouldn't have to fence in your whole yard but it would give you some privacy. Try putting a small padlock on your rabbit cage.

Try talking with the kids first. Explain to them in a calm but firm tone that someone keeps letting your rabbit out of the cage and ask if they have seen anyone do this? Mention that you are really worried about losing your rabbit (it running away, getting hit by a car, eaten by a dog perhaps??!!) Make it seem like you want their help. If they are smart kids - that will get the point across.

Also mention that you really don't mind if they quickly cut through your yard to get to the parl (give and take a little here) but you would appreciate it if they wouldn't play in your front yard. Let them know that you like to have a little peace and a little piece of your OWN yard.

If they are smart kids and not complete jerks, they will comply. And you can catch a loooootttt more flies with honey.

If they don't listen/don't care, are little pooperheads then talk with the parents. But at least you can now approach the parents and say, I talked with your kids but they were unwilling to do "such and such". If the parents are real parents, they will be irate that their kids disrespected a request from another adult (and I bet they won't be cutting through your yard anymore). If things go well, you should also mention your concerns about the dog (mention that you saw it almost get run over by a car or something) State that some other people seem scared by their dog running loose. State that you know that it is really nice but . . . again more flies with honey.

IF the parents are pooperheads, then contact animal control. Going through this "chain of command" will make animal control/the police more likely to deal with the matter. I have a friend who is a police officer and hates it when neighbors call him and haven't even talked to one another. It can really really strain neighbor relationships and you want to be able to feel good about the steps that you have taken and still be able to wave to these people when they are outside.

Report the dog without the leash to animal control. THEY will make sure he gets a leash. Talk to the parents about the kids and let them know the rabbit has been let loose more than once and you're afraid it will get hurt or killed. You need to break this behavior as soon as you possibly can or they will continue as teenagers and feel they have every right to do it.

Well its not any of your bisssness what the dog is doing , howeverI would call your nabor and tell her to stop letting her kids run around your yard you shouldnt have to put a ence up just so the kids stay out of your yard I have 1 daughter and we have a great little playset out back as well as a trampoline and an inground pool I would be very unhappy if other people came over uninvited and began to play on my daughters things asking is another thing.

Tell your neighbor that if she continues to allow the dog to run loose you will call animal control.Aske her to keep the children out of your yard. Tell her you do not want the liability if they were to get hurt. Or tell her you don't want kids in your yard messing with things.

Simply call the mom or dad or tell the kids to stay out or you'll call the authorities. I had the same exact problem.
