Basically i just need a map which doesn't require an internet connection so i can use it on the road while travelling

You can try Microsoft Autoroute. It can be downloaded from here http://www.microsoft.com/uk/homepc/autoroute/default.mspx

No, the database is too big to download.

Buy Microsoft Streets. That'll do it.
