because creationism is a basic belief of believing in God .. so evolution is the main counter to that ...

For some reason beyond all comprehension, people who have a fanatic attachment to the scientific theory of evolution feel as if they have proof that God did not create the cosmos, and, evidently, there are people who believe in God who are afraid they might be right.
Both sides are laughably ridiculous.
Evolution, even if it is ever proven to be a fact, which is unlikely at this point, does not offer one shred of evidence to prove that there was not an intelligent mind behind all creation.
On the other hand, those who call themselves "Creationists" who insist that the earth and all that exists was created in literally six days and can't be more than 6,000 years old are also making superb fools of themselves.
There is absolutely no conflict between God and science, rather it is between egotisical scientists who think they have all the answers, and equally arrogant theologians who are sure they do. The plain truth is, we don't even know the right questions to ask, yet.
God and science co-exist quite well together.
After all, God invented science.....

Because evidence goes against self organization being able to produce meaningful intelligent information. Dean Kenyon who once wrote a book about origins of life has now abandned that theory as the lab results disproved that natural processes were able to provide anything but ordered and repetitive meaningless information. Where as the once believed to be a simple cell required specific complex information. It simply isn't true that the debates haven't come from the scientific community. There was a book written a number of years back by an agnostic who had allot of problems with evolutionary theory. It was called evolution a theory in crisis. His work actually inspired allot of people to start asking questions. The authors name is Michael Denton although I understand he has again changed his viewpoint. However a number of questions he asked inspired people to start asking questions and those who are hones will admit that even those who believe evolution are at times bitterly opposed to each other. I should add that people have reasons for embracing certain viewpoints not just theists which is why the rhetoric is so enflamed at times.

Because Evolution is a substitute for creation by God. That, plus the fact that it is based on faith that one celled organisms can "evolve" into human beings "naturally". This is something that science is unable to duplicate in the laboratory, and yet the faithful still believe that it happened.

To deny creation by God, some other explanation is needed. Evolution is the best that atheists have been able to come up with.

because those that believe that God created everything feel that it is blasphemy against god, and there are those that have faith and believe in God that are a little bit more open minded to other possibilities of things that maybe evolution does exist but something that was planned and or designed by God, that and the fact that evolution has been proven just makes it all the more difficult for those that have faith in a God that has not been proven

Because people use it as a means to doubt the existence of God. My Biology teacher said, in class, that since Evolution is a fact that the Bible is wrong and there is no God. But of course when you pressure them with this, and how it is an anti-religious concept, they fall back and say it doesn't have anything to do with religion.

Some people attempt to disprove the existence of a Higher Power with the Evolution theory.

Some of us...believe that a Higher Power has everything to do with evolution.

Evolution is part of the original plan.....change is necessary for survival. The creative energy did not create a dead and lifeless universe.

Because some theists believe a God is behind evolution.

The debates don't come from the science community. They come from the people who have been taught to believe in the book of Genesis literally.

If people actually take the time to read up on evolution, they'll see that you can both believe in God and accept evolution. They'll also see why most of the arguments against evolution are based on misconceptions about what evolution is and isn't. It's no more "godless" than the theory of gravity.

But no, right-wing Christians who want to turn the country into a theocracy would rather try to push their religion into science class. It's much easier than having to read a science book.

Religion is about the "Mysteries of Life." Ranging from birth, existence, death, and beyond. So, with "Evolution" we are still playing with the mystery of birth; instead of species birth we find curiosity in life (general) birth and what it means we are.

Evolution is a great theory that many scientists agree upon to SOME degree. However, as the scientists who said the "World is Flat" there are scientists who still have curiosity about details with evolution. There is no certainty in this science and it is still shrouded with mystery.

Because the Discovery Institute managed to convince the public that it was evolution or god. Look up the wedge document. Pretty scary stuff.
