Craigslist is a great website, not so much for buying or selling cars. People who are serious about selling a car will probably use cars.com or autotrader.com. Try one of those sites. Using a site that is specifically dedicated to cars will usually give you a higher quality of results to choose from.
You should also use kbb.com to get a good idea of the private party value when buying a car from someone. This isn't set in stone. For example, a car that is completely over saturated in the used car market like a Ford Tarus, will tend to sell for a bit less than what the website tells you.
Keep in mind that some people don't even know how much their own car is worth when they try to sell it. You'll see some people who think that the amount they owe on their car loan has anything to do with the car's actual value.
By comparing many similar cars (make, model, condition mileage and year), you will be able to see the current market value for the car you're looking for. Watch out for cars priced way below or way above the others.
Check out cars.com and see whats out there!
Good Luck
-Mike

Honda, as well as Toyota, has been gradually building a reputation (some might call it a myth) of invulnerability. A lot of people think only a Honda or Toyota is capable of going past 200,000 and hence price them accordingly. If you're looking for value, look at domestic cars. I bet you can find quite a few for around $3000 that are less than 10 years old.

Well ... the thing is that Honda's have very good engine life and maintain it's value as a reliable car even when it is old , second, new cars are so expensive to begin-with that people want to recoup some of the original cost , but over all the price goes up on used cars by it's original quality and original level price , and third there is a blue book published by the department of consumer's affair with pertinent price per car/year and is used by the vendors of used car-lots to come to a controlled pricing , and you will find that a private seller will be selling his car for the same price as a car lot .

Hondas are some of the most reliable cars that there are and they are very valuable even used. Some new ones cost barely more than used ones because they are so popular. Try searching for a different type of car like a chevy or a ford, their used cars tend to run a little cheaper depending on the model.

used cars are over rated a lot ,that's why the cost is so high on them, your right you cant really find a good cheap one anymore, but they are highly over rated especially Honda,s those are good cars but there actually rated to be more than they actually are,and that pushes the value of them way up,just about ten years ago you could buy a good used Honda for around 3 grand that was just a few years old,now one that's 15 years old will cost sometimes as much as 5 grand, that goes to show you that they are really over rated, they are good cars but who ever said they would last for ever, was wrong about them, you see as many questions on here about them, as any other car,but they are high, and will remain that way looks like, good luck ,hope this helps.

In my town you could get a 2000 year car for about that price of course it has to be like a Jetta or a Camry, i think the type of cars you are mentioning are overpriced, they should not be sold for more than $1500 dollars

I paid $3,500 for a 1993 Honda Civic DX Coupe back in 2004.
Hondas are good cars that are well maintained and hence, maintain their value.

That's true, there isn't much available under 3,000 and not buried in mileage. Hondas are my favorite car, they are reliable, decent cars and with general maintenance, mileage is almost not a concern. Toyotas run second, for me, but I like their SUV selection better.

$3000 is considered very little now when buying a car. you can only get a junker for that price.

You don't have to pay them so much. You can negotiate. You shouldn't pay more than 2k for a car older than 1999. I just tell them, I am not going to pay so much for this POS.
