I had tickets for myself and my daughters for yesterdays Coke 600.As soon as I got in my seats I look to see who's around me, ok, on the left a Waltrip fan,on the right a Gordon and Smoke fan, kool, behind me a group of bare chested already drunk, swearing Junior fans. Now don't get me wrong, I have some drivers I'm not crazy about but I love the majority of the drivers, Junior included. But what I hate is the complete disrespect for human life.....Jeff Gordon took a very hard hit in the wall and the Junior fans were clapping and yelling. It absolutely turned my stomach. Jeff is a human being no matter what you may think of him, and he is an awesome driver and doesn't deserve the disrespect shown him. I'm so tired of hearing about rainbow warrior. I think its a case of jealously. I mean seriously, compare the records, how many championships has Junior won versus how many Jeff has won? Also were there people cheering and applauding when Dale SR hit the wall for the last time?

Amen to that. Yes it is a sport, but when a driver wrecks you have no idea if he is ok until he either drives away or climbs out of the car. When a football player stays down after a play do you cheer that he is down and possibly hurt? It's no different in Nascar. People should wait until it is clear that the driver is ok. What you witnessed is completely classless and uncalled for. And since I live in Charlotte I can say, it is very redneck and white trash type of behavior.

I'm pretty sure that there were some cheers of approval when Senior hit that wall as a fan's first reaction takes into account that seldom does a driver fail to walk away from such a hit.
It has nothing to do with disrespect for human life. It has everything to do with disrepect for Gordon the "race" car driver. He gets none because he offers none and never has.
If Gordon's crash had resulted in serious injury or death, the reaction would have changed.
It would be similar to a football fan's reaction to a great play only later to discover that a player has been seriously injured during the play.
Nobody is forcing these drivers into the cars to face death.
Besides, Gordon hit a "soft" wall.
The cheers were so loud, I could hear them at my house over my own emotional outburst, so apparently the fans liked what they saw.
From what I believe I saw on the only replay from the angle that actually showed what happened, it appeared that Gordon contributed to his own wreck by forcing the 96 wide and high off the corner. Then proceeded to verbally blast the 96 for racing him hard.
Two of the reasons why Gordon gets booed, by the way.
One would think that he would have matured by now since he is one of the more experienced drivers on the circuit as well as a 4-time champ.
Geez, is the boy ever going to grow up?
Racers are going to race him like he raced Senior. Wide open. (see link)
The records of each driver, Gordon and Junior can be reviewed when their careers are over. Until then, the records are in a state of flux.
In NASCAR, if you race hard, expect to crash hard.

he has fans just like anyone else does in any other sport. There are crazy, loud, drunks everywhere and you should know this if you have ever been to a Nascar race. It's a sport for crying out loud. Everyone has someone they want to see win. I love Lil E. I don't want to see anyone get hurt, but some guys love to see the wrecks, they say it makes the race for them, granted no one is hurt. Of course no one wants to see anybody hurt. There are die hard fans that will do anything for their driver. Dale Jr can not help that. As a matter of fact he and Jeff are very good friends. Have been for a long time. Please don't even mention Dale Sr. that was so tragic and I still have not overed that to this day-probably never will. I folllowed him all his racing career.May he Rest in Peace. He would be proud of his son regardless of what anyone says. Jr. has big plans in the making. We'll see! There are Red-necks and White Trash all Over America!!! Always will be.Whatever you want to call them. I've seen it at Football games and Hockey Games my Lord-we won't even go there!

I am a Junior fan myself, and I will admit I get happy when Gordon or Johnson fall back or even wreck. They just get all hyped up into the competition that they don't realize what they are cheering for exactly. You need to keep in mind that the racecars have gotten safer over the years. So when Gordon hit the wall, the only thing that got hurt was the car. When a Nascar driver crashes on the track its completely different then if you or I was to get into a wreck. As for the Dale Sr. incident. There probably were people who cheered when he crashed but weren't cheering when they found out the tragic news. Just remember, Nascar is a sport.

Not a Gordon fan, but that crash scared me. Although he was fine, it looked like a VERY hard hit. I was very glad to see him get out of the car in good condition. Not all Jr fans are like the ones you described. (I am a Jr fan) I hope you and your daughters had a good weekend. It was one heck of a race.
And yes, people were cheering and applauding when Dale hit the wall. I think it's like a rodeo. There are always people in the fans that want to see a rider get ravaged by a bull, but then they want them to get up without any injuries afterward. People want to see big exciting wrecks, but then want to see the driver climb out unscathed. Unfortunately, they don't always climb out.

I have also been to several races where these ignorant fans have cheered when J. Gordon had some bad luck. I agree with you he is a human being and does not deserve the ridicule that he receives. I think the major problem most guys have with him is that he can get pretty much any girl he wants and they cannot so their only line of defense is to say he is gay or that he cheats. Al ot of people also have a problem with the fact the he is not one of the "good old boys" from down south. Why should it matter where he is from. He is definitely talented. He drives the wheels off of anything you put him in. And doesn't he have 4 championships? How many does Jr. have??? None!!

I gotta admit, even theory i'm a extensive Dale Jr. fan, i'm not Ampin' It UP. I never somewhat tried power beverages until Jr. signed with Amp, yet maximum excellent as much as the commencing up of final season, i became into pounding a minimum of one an afternoon for help of my guy. Then at some point, the convenience save became into out of Amp and desiring to feed my new discovered power drink habit, i offered a can of green Monster. for sure I even have never regarded returned. green Monster is the assets you dream approximately as a newborn.

Couldn't say it better myself there papa bill... As many people out there look like Jr. fans there not. They cheer for the Budweiser car, and you watch when Jr. changes teams and Visa is his sponsor, there won't be as many fans as everyone thinks he has.. Although, whoever gets Budweisers sponsorship, will get some fans also. Then the other reason is that it takes that too happen for him to beat Gordon..

I am a Junior/DEI fan, but I was very concerned for Jeff and was glad when I saw that he was ok. Personally, I would love to see Jeff and Junior race for the win on the track, for him to crash does not prove anything, or make Junior any better than him... so I am usually disappointed when Jeff or Jimmie wrecks, because I like to see my favorite drivers try to beat them.
