When I was a teenager, I visited a Catholic church, a Fundamentalist church, a mainstream Protestant Church, a Hindu temple, a Buddhist shrine, and a Muslim mosque. I traveled a lot and my parents wanted me to experience and understand other cultures. Most people never have such opportunities and may not even want to do such a thing anyway. However, I found it very enriching to understand how people think and what they believe. Would the world be better off if everyone learned about the major world religions?

I absolutely think so.
When I was in college, I took a lot of courses on religion and visited many different types of places of worship (much as you have, with the exception of the Hindu temple...there's not one in the town in which I lived). The more I know about how others believe, the more accepting I find myself being of cultural differences. I think the world would be far more peaceful if others could really try to learn what others believe and why.

I have on account that our university has essential Bible courses for us. The improvement of learning global religions are that you simply get to understand extra approximately different religions. You do not precisely need to consider in it, however you realize extra approximately what different individuals consider it. You additionally get to understand extra understanding approximately their rituals and all that, it is less complicated should you've studied global religions despite the fact that you are an atheist (like me) in order that after we meet individuals of alternative religions, we may not do whatever fallacious to offend their possess faith. But World Religions can also be uninteresting, I've been sitting by way of this magnificence for part a 12 months now, to be sincere, I do go to sleep from time to time.

Answer to your first question... "Sure, if you'd like to."
Answer to your second/last question... "No. The opportunity for people to learn about other religions has existed for THOUSANDS of years. It has not created any more 'peace' or 'tolerance.' If the world learned your lessons, then fine, there is a chance for a so-called better world, but you cannot guarantee everyone learns the same lessons you do."
I have studied other religions, and have concluded that the one that serves my faith-needs is Christianity. While I understand the other religions, it has only served to strengthen the faith I have in my own, and that the others are not the "one true" religion. Now, if you are hoping that by my studying other religions has made me more "tolerant"... more "accepting" of those religions, then I have sadly disappointed you. Sorry, but this is my choice... and that is your choice.

There would be a lot more understanding. So much fighting over the ages have been on religious grounds.

Oh, definitely! Teaching is the best way to promote tolerance. If everyone understood each other somewhat; we would probably have less conflict in the world. You are so very lucky to have experienced so much!

OF COURSE!!! It will help the stereotyping and controversy spreading about religions. I mean, it is ridiculous how people believe Islam is this foul, violent religion that was spread by the sword, or how people believe Hindus worship a cow.

We'd be better off if we all just looked to our Creator and trusted the path He provided for us.

your point is that KNOWING OTHER RELIGIONS WILL DO AWAY WITH PREJUDICES...sad to say that even christian religions are on against each other...I used to be like that, as i saw/ heard my praches/pastors did/do...i taught in one well know Catholic school a few years back though I'm a SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST...i was given religious education classes to take...well i shared from the bible...and mind you, there books of Danie and Revelation which have their fulfillments supported by historical events !! refer to Daniel 7 for example...well i had to mention the Roman Catholic church ...as one that iniotiated the change refered to in Daniel 7: 25...changes of TIMES AND LAWS...this I got support from their catechesms in the refrence section in the school library...they actual show this change made to the ten commandment about idol worship being ommited...also their boldly admitting to their power to change worship from SATURDAY SABBATH TO SUNDAY...yes, these are facts the bible prophecied around 1000 years before their actual happenings....WITH GOOD HEART, AND THE GOSPEL COMMISSION, i preached the TRUTH for the four years i was in there....until one day, i was asked to leave for i was anti-catholic/popal...yes it is good to understand about other religions but where the truth is, one must not be ashamed to share ...for the reward is in heaven...Romans 1 : if we are ashamed of the gospel, Jesus will be ashamed of us on that judgment day...it is a choice one has to make....i shared this experience to show us that it is good to know other religions but where debate about the truth is necessary for the sake of the gospel, one must not hessitate to do so..BUT WITH HUMILITY AND LOVE FOR THE SALVATION OF THE HEARER.....finally, every TRUTH must be measured from the TRUTH...THE WORD OF GOD...THE BIBLE...for we must decide whether to please God or man... God will honor those who seek to please him....God bless
