You wanted some positive feedback about Lexapro, so here goes. Last year, I was deeply depressed. (depression as an adult was nothing new for me) I happened to have a doctor's appointment, to get some yearly bloodwork done. Long story short, I shared my depression with my doctor, & after many tears, & a big hug from my doctor, he prescribed Lexapro (10mg) for me. He said it would help with my depression & anxities. I was told that I would notice a difference in about two weeks or longer. Well, to my surprise, I felt so much better after taking the third tablet. My doctor said I was a lucky one to feel so much better so soon after starting the medication. I now feel so much better about myself & about life, in general. I don't sweat the small stuff anymore. The Lexapro has been a true blessing for me. My fiance & family have seen a wonderful change in me since I began taking the Lexapro last August. I finally feel a peace within myself & I am very happy. I also found that the walks I take daily help too. I didn't see the need to get therapy but would have if I felt the need to talk about that which depressed me. I can't say enough about how great Lexapro has worked for me. I heard that it does cause weight gain, so I continue to eat healthy, drink plenty of water, & exercise daily. It all goes hand in hand. Stay on it & DO NOT take yourself off it. Stop reading about the side effects. If it's working for you, then don't worry about side effects, unless you experience one or more of them. I have had NO side effects whatsoever. Take the pills daily & please don't be afraid. They're helping you & that's wonderful. Don't pay any attention to so called know-it-alls who only pretend to know about Lexapro but have never tryed it. I am thankful for the Lexapro & being adopted as a baby, I just met a few of my siblings & found out that depression runs in the family. I suffered depression in silence for many years. Now, I don't have to anymore. I hope you feel better after reading my post. I wish you continued success with the Lexapro. :)

I've been taking Lexapro for a while now. I haven't had any problems except for the initial nausea from beginning it. It really is very good, and there is the possibility of weight gain, just like there would be with taking something else like Celexa. I would strongly encourage you to continue taking it and if you have questions, talk with your doctor. The medicine isn't as effective if you stop mid-treatment, even if you feel better, and pick it back up again. The "electric shock" sensations might be your system trying to cycle out the drug that might still be in your system.
I love Lexapro, even as expensive as it is. I have had a good time with it. I hope you stick with whatever your doctor tells you.

Lexapro has about the least severe side effects of any SSRI drug.
All drugs have side effects, which affect different people to different degrees. With any drug it's a matter of whether it's a good trade for the desired effects. Fortunately, drug researchers are getting better at isolating the parts of the molecules that cause the side effects so they can remove or alter them without losing the desired effects. Lexapro is such a successor to Celexa.

I was on lexapro 10 mg for nearly a year, and I can honestly say that, for me, it was a great choice. I had very few side effects from taking it such as a higher sensitivity to caffiene, and mild insomnia for a few days. I never gained weight from it, and it helped so much with my depression and anxiety to the point where I don't need medication to get through the day. So, if you need it, I would reccomend it as a good SSRI.

What is the most important information I should know about escitalopram?
You should not use this medicine if you also take pimozide, or if you are being treated with methylene blue injection.
Do not use escitalopram if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine.
Some young people have thoughts about suicide when first taking an antidepressant. Your doctor will need to check your progress at regular visits while you are using vilazodone. Your family or other caregivers should also be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms.
Do not give this medicine to anyone under 12 years.

My son took it for three years. It really helped. As he matured his brain matured and he has been able to get off of it. None of those symptoms occurred. Please understand side effects such as those are uncommon
