Perhaps before the "fall" labour was not painful. The muscles do contract which creates pain, but maybe God created the woman's body to not be receptive to pain in that area.
As for animals, I believe it is said that when man fell all of creation did and so that includes animals etc..
Hope this helps, although i do not claim to have all the answers.

Hi Queen, I think people misunderstand creation all the time.
Check this out: The church wanted to kill Copernicus because he said the Earth revolved around the Sun. When he said that, many Christians fell away from their faith because they believed the church teaching that the Sun revolved around the Earth. Today we have no problem with this, but at the time, when science showed the literal interpretation of Genesis 1 to be incorrect, some people threw out the whole story of creation, and fell away from their faith.
Young Earth vs. Old Earth is the same thing. You can't stand at the edge of the grand canyon without thinking the Earth is older than 6000 years. The literal interpretation of creation does not jive with scientific fact.
I believe the creation story is a metaphor, given by God, to teach us about creation. If you read it literally, you will have problems. I'm a deeply committed Christian, but I think science has already proven that you can not read the story literally. Remember, Jesus taught in parables all the time.
The main points of creation is this: Mankind learned the difference between good and evil, and as a result, needs redemption. This difference is what separates us from Animals (they don't know the difference between good and evil).

A very good question. I'm not a Christian, so I don't have an answer, but the best solution I can come up with to "fix" the problem you've pointed out is that, somehow, the birthing mechanism was different prior to eating the fruit - maybe the vaginal cavity was significantly larger or something? (I'm not a biologist, obviously.)
And, of course, God smote the animals too in order to remind us all the time of Eve's sin... Although that works both ways, since it'd also be a good reminder if humans were, inexplicably, the ONLY things that felt pain in childbirth. Gah.
Bottom line, you can see why I have a hard time believing the Christian myth.

Here we go again,
Promise not to laugh?
1. Yes you can pray while you are on the toilet!
Before the fall Adam (PBUH) and Eve, did not have physical bodies, they were light beings. And they had twenty six sets of twins before the fall. No birth pangs while they were in light forms. After the fall they had earthly bodies from consumption of earthly foods (an apple would be a good example). They then noticed they were unclothed, this created exploration. From this exploration (Procreation), Eve gave birth to two children. Then came the birth pangs and we all know the reason for that, they had earthly bodies.
That's where the story starts as described in what we know as the Holy Bible, Old Testament.........
And you are not stupid, your a special person. Be inquisitive, although I know you already are. Good for you!
Hang in there, kiddo, were all in this together........

your not anymore stupid than I am and I am not stupid. That is a good question and one I never thought of either, I think it would have been after the fall, before the fall all was well till they sinned. And about the animals a thought came ot me, female are the ones who give birth, when Eve got into trouble and God said what He said to her in Gen. 3:16 maybe when He did that then it was meant for all females..of course again that is just a thought that came ot me, am not sure if that is why or not. But it does sound good though, I thought.

I don't think you are stupid, just curious. I have never thought of that before about the pains of birth if the fall had not taken place. One can only imagine what it would have been like, perhaps less painful. That would have been nice. As one who believes in God I really can't explain what might of been. But it is a good question and will read some of the others.

Maybe you didn't get an answer to your question, When adama nd Eve sinned, sin entered the world, and everything in it, including animals and their labor. From my understanding of the garden story, God did create labor to be painful, but Eve was innocent and did not know sex until sin (the fruit) entered the world, all she knew at the time was adam and God, she wouldn't have know she was naked, and therefore, that nakeness can lead to makinglove with a spouce and then nine month later labor and a child pops out. Adam lived for a long time, Seth, Cain and Cain's brother were not Adam and Eve's only children. The story of Cain and Abel was the first murder.

this is missed by a lot of people -
what was multiplied
and what else was the result.
16. Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
How often a woman can become pregnant was multiplied
&
And now no longer in the Garden - safe and protected -
A mother gives birth - and from then on worries and frets over her babies.
(sorrows = worries)
Worries and sorrows in all things - children getting hurt - going to war - dying - their success or failure - endless list - and it does not matter their age either.
&
men will dominate the women - I think God was angry!?
&
and women often feed into "my identity is my hubands identity" - women lose who they are in the relationship - this happens way to often too!?
chidbirth pain too - I suppose - I think there is more than one level to understanding the bible. There were no other children but I am pretty certain that she and Adam had witnessed birth among the animals. Doesn't say that but it is likely.
read it again ---------- there is a lot in this little verse.!!!!!

there's a medicinal cure for everything right? medicine originally came from herbs. so likely, there was a herb that would have nullified birth pains and it could have been killed for that reason.
I believe it says I will increase your pain, so it hurt some. perhaps God just hightened the pain receptic nerves of women in that area. there are cases of nerves being awaken without genetic interference. for example, this woman was hit in the face with a hocky puck and she gained control of the muscles in her eyes so she can push her eyeball out 11 millimeters (about 0.4 inches).
not a bad question
