I've been reading many heated debates and discussion comparing Christianity and other religions.

Time and time again, I see Christians calling all sorts of other religions "false".

I'm just curious, but how can a religion be "false"? Doesn't falsity rely on the fact that there is no truth. If a person chooses to believe in a certain ideaology, then how can that be false?

Likewise, why is it the Christians that are constantly insulting the beliefs of others? I have read many of these types of questions and NOT ONE TIME have I seen a Muslim or Hindu or Buddhist say that Christianity is a FALSE RELIGION!

A false religion is any religion that isn't the one an individual person believes in. People will say its any religion that goes against the word of God in the Bible, but since each religion has their own "Bible" it means that all religions are false to each other.

Its like an answer on an exam question of "Is Hell hot or cold", and the best answer came down to saying, that since each religion says they are the right religion and if you don't believe in My God than your going to hell, ultimately everyone would go to hell, making it a really hot place.

People believe what they want to believe and if you don't believe the same as them especially with religion they will tell you that your wrong - be better if people just respected others decisions to believe what they do, instead of telling them that they are wrong.

If you look long enough you'll see it. I've seen plenty of muslims insult Christians.

You are 100% right, though, that Christians should not insult anyone. Jesus would never have done that, and nor should we.

As Christians, we only recognize Christianity as the one true religion. "I'm just curious, but how can a religion be "false"? Doesn't falsity rely on the fact that there is no truth. If a person chooses to believe in a certain ideaology, then how can that be false?"

There is no denying that there are measures of truth in other religions, but as Christians we recognize that for anyone to obtain the fulness of God's truth, they must go to Christ. If we don't believe this, how can we call ourselves Christians? It would make Jesus' death mean nothing. Think about this: Muslims believe that they have the true religion. Jews believe that their's is right. So do the Buddhists and the atheists. The objective of each one is to convert the other. See how tangled it can get? The belief that we Christians have the true faith is no different that the other ones. How is one to decide? It is by our witness. We must set the example. The only way to set the example is to rely on the Holy Spirit. The indwelling of Him is what will convert hearts, not us. We have no power to do this on our own. A spirit filled life is what people will see, and He that is God is Who will call them.

God bless.

Counterfeit Christianity is probably the best description I can give for a cult. Counterfeit Christianity is an imitation of real Christianity. Bible terms like "Jesus Christ, Resurrection, Salvation, and Atonement" are used by the Cult, but the various cult groups have assigned entirely different meanings to these terms.
Like counterfeit money which is sometimes difficult to detect, so it is difficult to detect counterfeit Christianity, since it looks like the real thing. Experts examining counterfeit money often hold it up to a strong light and look for identifying marks. Counterfeit Christianity also has identifying marks, which can be seen when, held up to an even stronger light, the light of God's word, the bible.
We are at an advantage if we know what to expect from a cult. Cultists are very well trained to appear "Christian", and indeed believe they are the true churches, and you need the deliverance! Therefore, be bold and ask the question, "do you believe the group you represent is the only true church on the face of the earth?"
If they reply that they are, or if they are evasive, making remarks like "Well, every church has a measure of truth but...", you have made an early detection of a Cultist.
Every true Christian, if asked the same question, regardless of his denomination, would reply that the true church is comprised of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, and HE (not some organization) is THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE, (John 14:6). No legitimate denomination would claim that they alone and their members have salvation exclusively, but the cults (the counterfeits) do.

Any religion that does not base itself from the Bible is false. All religions don't, as they have Book of Mormons, cross idols, etc. I've been recently attending Jehovah's Witnesses meetings; they have proven to be the only TRUE religion in the world. Visit their website at Jw.org for more information. Don't be misled by so called "Christians" and Catholics and by any other type of Religon--that includes Buddhism too. All religions vow down to an image..the Bible, inspired by god Jehovah( 2Tim.3:16) or God's word, clearly states that no image should be made to consider it a god (Exodus 20:4). I encourage everyone here to visit the webpage I provided to find the real answers no other religion can answer. Request a free Bible study there. Question solved.

The website, "GotQuestions.org" is really good for these kinds of questions. While I hate cut/paste answers, it is so understandably written, it's the best one to give you... Here is what it says regarding "cults"... which works as far as a definition of a false religion goes... according to the Christian view:

"Often in our minds we think of a cult as a group that worships Satan, sacrifices animals, and takes part in evil, bizarre, and pagan rituals. In reality, though, most cults appear much more innocent. The specific Christian definition of a cult is a religious group that denies one or more of the fundamentals of Biblical truth. Or, in more simple terms, a cult is a group that teaches something that will cause a person to not be saved if they believe it. In distinction from a religion, a cult is a group that claims to be Christian, yet denies an essential truth of Biblical Christianity.

"The two most common teachings of cults are that Jesus was not God and that salvation is not by faith alone. A denial of the deity of Christ results in Jesus’ death not being a sufficient payment for our sins. A denial of salvation by faith alone results in salvation being achieved by our own works – something the Bible vehemently and consistently denies."

As to "Should Christians be tolerant of other people's religious beliefs?" then look up the second citation below.

Hope this helps!

For there to be falsity, there must be truth. If there is no universal truths then the supposed truth "is only relative to the individual whose opinion it is". Christianity holds that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Islam holds that Christ is not the Son of God. So this relativism supports both that Christ is the Son of God and that Christ is not the Son of God. Rather contradictory and self-defeating.

I have heard Muslims and Hindus alike insult other religions (not to pick on them but to tell you about this transcendent thing).

Anyways the assertion that your religion is true, automatically infers that other religions are not - that is unless you're a relativist, of course!

I'd tell you that any false religion is any religion other than Christianity.

think if ones religion don't agree or go along with another it is considered false, and to many of that is going around non stop. I am just a believer and that is one of the reasons I am not into religion, think a personal relationship with God is more important and more fulfilling than any of the religion that is on this earth. I will more than likely get alot of thumbs down but oh well can't help how I feel..

Hi lisaleilani@sbcglobal.... There are many false Gospels being taught in the world today, so we must ask ourselves, which one is the Truth? The important question we should ask is by what authority is a Gospel being taught? The authority is what structures and determines what is being taught as the truth. This is necessary because the nature of the true Gospel is defined and established by its divine authority. In fact, the every religion, gospel, or ideological system has an authority by which it is taught. .

A Mohammedan, for example, may wish to know how to live as a good Mohammedan. So he carefully consults the Koran, a book in which Mohammedans believe God has spoken. The Koran, therefore, is the written authority that establishes the Mohammedan gospel, that is, the Mohammedan religion.

An orthodox Jew has a different authority. It includes what we call our Old Testament, along with the writings of the church fathers that are considered to be divinely inspired. That is the authority that establishes the nature and character of the Jewish religion.

A Mormon has as has divine authority the Bible, plus the Book of Mormon, which is believed to be divinely inspired. Because the Book of Mormon came later than the Bible, it has become a shadow that lies over the Bible. That is, someone who follows the Mormon gospel examines everything he reads in the Bible in the light of what is found in the Book of Mormon.

Similarly, the Roman Catholics follow still another gospel. The authority that structures and determines their gospel begins with the Bible. But the Apocrypha books are also a part of their authority. The visions of Joan of Arc and the infallible utterances of the Pope, were looked upon as divine, and together they make up the authority that establishes the character of the Roman Catholic gospel.

Also the charismatic gospel has its authority. It believes that the Bible is the Word of God, but it also believes in divine revelation through visions, voices, or tongues, which expands their authority beyond the Bible. Therefore, it has as its authority the Bible, plus the messages presumably received from God through dreams, visions, and tongues. This widened authority structures and determines the character of the charismatic gospel.

Bear in mind that every time we have a different authority, we also have a different kind of gospel. In other words, every gospel is structured and determined by its authority. So when the authorities are different5 , the gospels themselves will be different.

But what is the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, who alone can save men and woman from their sins? One definition sometimes offered to describe the true Gospel is set forth in I John 4:2. There we read that if we confess that Christ has come in the flesh, then we are of God. Yet as we read in Luke 4:34, the demons also admit that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, and they are still under God's wrath. So that definition by its self may not be adequate in every case.
The Bible indicates that it alone and in its entirety is the authority that establishes the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Revelation 22:18-19 says it best:

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophesy of this book, if any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophesy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."

In this passage God has established the parameters of the true Gospel. It is to be found in the Bible. The Bible alone is the true divine authority. It is the only complete authority that establishes the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. If we follow and authority that is narrower or wider than the Bible alone and in its entirety, we are not following the Gospel of the Bible. Regardless of how holy it may appear to be, such a gospel will not lead to salvation.

What are the religions teachings based on? Are they from God or are they largely from men? Where does the Bible teach that God is a Trinity? Where does it say that the human soul is immortal? Manmade! Does the religion make known the name of God (Jehovah)? Does the religion take part in political issues (voting, war)? Do they try to live separately from the world? Does the religion allow smoking, allow its followers to live in sin, to gamble? Does the religion allow/agree to its members being in the armed services?False religion allows all of these things to occur & take place w/its members. So that should tell you right there, what & who are False religion...

You had to know just asking this would get every atheist on the planet to answer.

Christians (or people from any other religion or belief system) should not be insulting those who believe differently than they do. But of course each group believes that they are right and everyone else is wrong. Each political party thinks it's right, each carmaker believes their product is best, and so on. No one says "I think today I'll go and join the wrong religion for no particular reason."
