Predestination is only used in the Bible 4 times and it refers to what God is going to do with a person after He has chosen them.

Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Ephesians 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Ephesians 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

The Bible teaches that it is God who chooses whom He will save but it also teaches that whosoever will believe on Jesus Christ will be saved. There are two sides to the coin, God's sovereignty and man's responsibility. No where does the Bible teach that a person who is seeking God and trying to repent of their sins will be rejected by God. Instead it teaches that such a person is already being moved towards salvation by the Spirit of God.

Calvinism is being taught more and more but God gave us freedom of choice. If we were predestined to go to Heaven or Hell, what would be the point in serving God? Why would Christians be commanded to go into the world and spread the Gospel? Think how ridiculous predestination sounds in that context.

I do not believe in predestination. We are given free will to make our own decision. God is all knowing so he knows what decision we will make. This can be a very difficult concept to understand. It's kind of like not reading a book because you already know how it is going to end. God knows how everything is going end, but he is willing to go the extra mile in the hopes that all of us will accept his gift of forgiveness and everlasting life.

I believe everyone rejects God when given the choice. After that God gives saving faith to some. There is no apparent reason why some are given that faith and others are not. Those that are not choose against God, as their first choice. They are not forced to reject God, they just do. We all get what we want, God or no God.

But, no, God does not force anybody to reject Him. If that is predestination then I firmly believe in it.

Yes, I believe in predestination, but I'm a minority vote here. Calvinism gets twisted around endlessly.

I don't believe in predestination. that's like saying "how can everybody be expected to obey laws most of the time?". anyone can do it, people just choose not to.

Predestination makes sense when/if someone believes in reincarnation. There are certain types of Christians that do.

Our Puritan Forefathers believed in predestination, but I don't; nor does anyone else I know. I think you're in the wrong century!

Martin S gave a great answer. I would only like to emphasize that it says God FOREKNEW those he "pre"destined to become like Jesus. I think that God is timeless, and before He ever said "let there be light" and made man, that He already KNEW that Adam and Eve would reject his sovereignty, and already KNEW in intimate detail every minute, every thought, every action that every person who would ever live was going to do. And in spite of all the people who He knew would choose to reject Him, He created man and gave Him the CHANCE to know Him and be like Him. God's intention is for us to fellowship with Him, and become like Him. I only believe in predestination in that God knew beforehand who would and wouldn't accept Him, and planned for those who would to grow more like Him.

But the Bible clearly states we're all part of God's plan. So we must be predestined.
